Steen & Strøm is one of the oldest shopping centres in Norway. It used to be exclusive, until they made it into a typical ordinary centre. This year, however, they wanted to go back to its original glory.
It has now risen up from dust, and become a truly exclusive dpeartment store. It's Oslo's "Harrod's". It has 58 different "stores", filled with international top brands such as Hugo Boss, Burberry, Tiger, Filippa K, DKNY, Bruunsbazaar, Calvin Klein ++
What to buy: If you want to go exclusive shopping in Norway - this is one of the must top 3 places to shop.
What to pay: Much.

In Stortorvet you can find on the right of the Domkirke, this big department store. Inside it you can find many woman's clothes, man's clothes and children's clothes. There is also a supermarket and many shpos of gifs and home furnishing.

This is a fairly old-fashioned butcher. The point for visitors is that here you can get moose, reindeer, deer, and occasional other game plus a significant variety of Norwegian specialties such as pinnekjøtt (whole salted, smoked, dried ribs of lamb), sausages, fenalår (dried, salted cured lamb), sheep's heads, forest pigeons, mountain grouse, wild goose etc. The reindeer meat smuggler's paradise!
Open 10-17, weekdays, 9-15 Saturdays.
What to buy: For visitors with room to spare and with some distance to go: fenalår, pinnekjøtt, reindeer and moose. Game keeps fairly well.
Don't try the sheep's heads. Don't do well through customs as you arrive home.
They also do party deliveries and can show up with a butcher, no cook, in your party.
What to pay: Ouch, not that question again. Well, cheaper here than at the socalled duty-free at the airport and cheaper than most shops in Oslo.

This shop caters for the boatowners and maritime buffs and collectors. Not an antique shop, but it has good selections of maritime art and crafts. No need for a boat. But for a boat you will find all necessary and unnecessary furnishings and decorations, lamps and what not here.
Some of the compact stuff here is good for RVs, camping etc., too.

You can shop all around at the number of Oslo's malls or department stores. There are numbers of them on Karl Johans Gate or side streets.
This building was once used as the SS headquarters during Nazi occupation of Norway and is now a Laura Ashley store.
What to buy: Husfliden is a great place to get some high quality local handicrafts from peweter, hand carved wooden items, and knitted sweaters. It is locaed on Rosenkrantzgt.
GlasMagasinet is also another great department store that you can find all kinds of glassware and other domestic items from Norway, on Grensen.
What to pay: For high quality woven items you can easily pay $300-500. Or for glassware $50-100.

There are a number of clothing stores all around Stortorvet. The market that is up in the summer time is great too-local fruits and vegetables and some locally hand made items.
What to pay: If you pick things that are in season they will be quite reasonable. Expect to pay a bit more than you woudl in your home town/country as everything in Oslo is more expensive.

If extremely high prices aren't a problem for you central Oslo offers some of the best shopping possibilities in Norway. Karl Johans gate hides some nice old department stores like Paleet Shopping centre and Steen and Strom GlasMagasinet.
For more modern centres you don't have to go far - Oslo City and Byporten Shopping are right behind the Railway station while the new Aker Brygge center has dozens of shops and restaurants.
