Ski jump is almost as popular in Norway as in Finland. The amazing part that here in Oslo it is really in the outskirt of the city. It is worth to come and visit this area even just for the view or the nature around here. Leave a Comment

by Gili_S This is the modern sport stadium of Oslo. I admit I did not visit inside as it was not permitted but I took this picture when I was walking around. Most amazing was how they use this facility, I mean, in a country where they surely know how to collect taxes and over charge for everything, they also build shops and offices around this stadium facility to be used also when there are no sports events. The Ullevaal Stadium by HORSCHECK The Ullevaal Stadium is the national football stadium of Norway. The clubs SFK Lyn Oslo and Valerenga IF use it as their home stadium. It is an all-seater arena with a capacity of 25.572. When visiting football stadiums, I always found a way to get in, but at the Ullevaal Stadium I didn't find any open gate or something like this. City Ski in Oslo by sourbugger Tryvann vinterpark (yes, that is the correct spelling) must be one of the very few ski areas in the world that can be accessed from the centre of a capital city via a subway line. (see Transportation tip) With only 11 pistes to play on, it isn't the sort of ski resort that more experienced skiers would spend more than a day on, but to give the place some credit, they have made a great deal of what they have. This is the place for 'proper' alpine skiing, (invented by the English of course) rather than than Scandanavian thing about skiing without your ankles being tied down, or romping off miles through the woods populated by hungry bears. Perhaps these forms of the sport are more popular with the locals. I must admit, I was quite surprised quite how empty the slopes were, even if it was a cold weekday evening. A few tips that may be of use to you : 1) Piste 1 is the green, 'motorway piste' where you will find many of the ski-school kids out. 2) Pistes 2-5 seem to be set out with a variety of poles for slalom skiing, little jumps all over the place for those who fancy themselves as those nutters who chuck themselves off mountains armed only with two long skis and an innate sense of invunerablity. 3) Another slope has a big half-pipe built for the grungy snowboaders. 4) Lift prices arn't cheap (see their website) but you can get all day, morning, afternoon and evening tickets (all the slopes are floodlit until 10PM) to suit your needs. Who said sledding was only for little kids? Trust me, it's not! If you're visiting Oslo in the winter, I highly recommend that you take a trip up near Frognersetern to try some sledding on the infamous luge track known as "Korketrekkeren". The track has been around since the early 1900's. In 1952, it was the Olympic bobsled track. This is definitely an activity for the entire family, since you go down at your own pace by stopping with your feet. Children are advised to wear helmets -as they do with all snow sport activities in Norway. When you reach the bottom of the track, just hop on the train and it takes you back up to the top! Get off at the Midtstuen station.
Sled - can be rented Warm clothing Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Exit at Voksenkollen station to rent a sledDirections: If you need to rent a sled: Take T-bane Line 1 to Voksenkollen. Here you can rent a sled and they will show you how to get to the sledding track. If you already have a sled: take T-bane Line 1 to the Midtstuen station and start sledding!

Tom's woodshed ! by sourbugger Located next Voksenkollen metro station (see transportation tip) the ski hire facility has a good rangs, but it is my no means cheap and fails to offer a discount for less than a one-day hire. This is a pity when the ski area offer morning / afternoon / evening and timed passes. The company also offer a minibus service (free to those who hire) from the shop / metro station up to the top of the Tryvann vinterpark area. You can also use the service at 20kr per person as long as there are at least 3 people ready for the 700m journey. by sourbugger Tryvann vinterpark (what's wrong with the letter 'w' guys ?) has just 11 slopes to play on. Of those, there is one steep black slope and one much longer run (piste 11). Piste 11 is a rolling, well contoured, smoothe, uncrowded, groomed black run with a stunning view. I could only describe it as akin to ski-ing over Halle Berry's bum - but I would never say anything that sexist. By the way, unlike the estimable Halle Berry, it also has no queues and it's own dedicated t-bar tow. Leave a Comment Theme: Skiing/SnowboardingAddress: see other tipWebsite: www.tryvann.no
