Aker brygge is an area by the harbour of Oslo - with mostly brand new buildings where once there probably were boat docks. It's quite interesting for its architecture - with a preference for glass. It's also a pedestrain area so its nice to walk around... there are plenty of very expensive shops and 35 places where to have dinner or lunch... not cheap places - but the food is supposed to be good nearly all over. In summer, in particular, it should be possible to eat by the sea.
While you walk around the area pay a closer look at some of the statues... most are either interesting or captivating. I found this one of a couple talking at a bar/restaurant table very enjoyable.

I too a boat trip offered by Båtservice sightseeing as. It took us around the Oslo Fjord for 3 hours. The give traditional norwegian snacks on board of prawns and bread with mayones and salt and pepper. Though I was taken aback the way the prawns was served. It had all the stuff attached to it, just plain cooked in water. I was told that the pourpose is to sit together and spend time in removing the stuff from prawns before eating it. It gives a time for social interaction. I enjoyed it alot, though I have never seen a prawns with all the stuff in a dinner plate!! The view is fantastic arround the fjord. They even provide balankets when it gets a bit chiller. The curise is quite enjoyable, with see gulls hovering over the ship in seach for a prawns or two as well. The ship was a sail boat, though I was a bit disappointed since I was under the impression that they will use the sail at some point in the trip, but it was never used, only motor power was used.

I love cities that have a water-front setting so this was one of my favourite parts of Oslo. As in many cities, the old warehouses have been done up and converted into shops, bars and restaurants, here with a cool Scandinavian style. As elsewhere in Oslo there are lots of interesting modern sculptures, and I loved the mix of old and new architecture.
There are several boats that act as bars or cafes. We had a few drinks at the Lektern (and a tasty bowl of olives) and sat soaking up the sun and listening to a cool guitarist on the next-door boat. Our waitress told us that the Lektern regularly pays musicians to play there to entertain their customers, and when we came back the next day we heard an equally good jazz trio - this time while sitting on the nearby staithes with a delicious ice-cream.
We also came here one evening to eat in the Bord Brasserie and the atmosphere was great then too. It really is the perfect place to be on a warm summer evening.

After coming back from Bygdøy, spend the rest of your first day in Oslo hanging out at Aker Brygge: the place has an unrivaled seaside feel and is full of bars and restaurants. (There are also vast shopping possibilities you may explore in July, the season of sales!). What you see here is a former site of Norway's largest shipbuilding enterprise, magically turned into an excellent example of modern architecture. The Norwegian ship industry may be squeezed out by petroleum, but it is not dead: guess who ownes 100% of the Aker-Finnyards, Finnland based shipyard which launched world's biggest passenger ferry last year.
You may find restaurants here very pricey, but there are also some budget alternatives: Peppes Pizza at the centre of it all or McDonalds with a sea view

Aker Brygge is a great place for just taking a cup of coffe or enjoying one of the many restaurants here. Especially "Lofoten Fiskerestaurant" and "Big Horn Steakhouse" are worth trying, besides all the restaurantboats on the seaside.

Once this place comprised of Oslo's old docks. Nowadays it's a cool trendy area, perfect for a stroll, having a coffee or beer, or to do some shopping. It is nice to just look out in the Oslo Fjord, admire the boats in the marina and view the Akershus Fortress from afar. Definitely worth a visit.

Aker Brygge is one of the most popular places of Oslo. Years ago they were the old docks of Oslo. They were restored and become nice buildings with an original architecture. Here you can find offices, pubs, restaurants and a pier with nice boats (some of them are boat-restarant). During the summertime Aker Brygge is a very crowl place: here you can find many enterteinments like music, disco and a lot of people.

Aker brygge is the ideal spot to watch Norwegian people spend money on expensive floating restaurants. The area is mostly crowded in summer and almost empty in winter, but it's still a good idea to stroll along the harbour, enjoy the sea breeze and the medieval fortress of Akershus which is beautifully lit up when darkness falls.
Locals and buisiness men and women come here during summer to eat (expensive) seafood fresh from the sea and drink (expensive) alcoholic drinks.

After the change of the guards we continue our walk through the park to the Parkveien with it’s beautiful buildings from the 19th century.
We passed the very heavy guarded Nobel institute.
Then direction Aker Brygge with the most modern shop- and restaurant opportunity of Oslo.
