Akershus Fortress is a national treasure in the heart of Oslo. Enjoy the short walk from the City Hall and the city centre to Akershus Fortress. You can enter the fortress grounds either by the main gate in Kirkegata or by another gate at the extension of Akersgaten. Cross the drawbridge across to the Information cntre, Norway's Resistance Museum and Akershus Castle with the Church. The Armed Forces Museum is situated further on, in the yard you will find the National War Memorial. The fortress grounds are an ideal recreation area, just as they were in the 19th century.

I highly recommed any visitor to Oslo to get 'The Oslo Card', this card will allow you to get to museums and other tourist attractions at discounted price or else it will already include the entrance fee. Akershus Slott og Festning is a medieval castle buit around 1300's, and rebuilt again as a Renaissance Palace in the 17th century, you get a free admission with your Oslo card.
Here you will several exhibits, including one about the Norwegian resistance during World War II. You will also find the tombs of some Norwegian Monarchs.

This medieval castle and fortress is a nice place to visit on a sunny day and admire Oslo waters from it, and to walk around cobblestone alleys.

The chapel is a quaint little area off the southern wing of the castle. Newly rennovated, the chapel holds services for the public and for the military.

Many of the buildings give an indication of what life may have been like inside the castle walls. You will still find stone store houses and half timbered structures on the grounds.
