The viking use to bury their chieftains and queens in ships carrying all they would need in the afterlife. Normally these ships would be put fire on and sendt out on the sea, but some of them were buried in big hills on land instead.

Besides visiting the fortress with the royal graves in the basement this is a nice place to relax in the greens having a picknick or just tease the royal guards who are not allowed to talk or move ;o)

I used to work here for several years and I really miss it. This is a historic place and you will find that reminders from the Second World War are still marked. Many Norwegian patriots were executed at Akershus. In the wars final hour the enemy surrendered, and in a brief ceremony the country was handed over to the Norwegian Home Front forces - and it all happened at Akerhus.

Aker Brygge was originally a ship yard but in the 1980s it was restored and extended to become a boardwalk, a combination of shops, restaurants and apartments, all directly on the waterfront. In the summer months, together with Karl Johan, Aker Brygge is Oslos most popular outdoor entertainment area.

Vigelandsparken (Vigeland Park)
Gustav Vigeland is Norways greatest ever sculptor, and in the magnificent Vigeland Park there are a unique collection of his sculptures. The park also contains a sculptured monumental fountain and extensive grassed areas. The people of Oslo are just as frequent visitors to Vigelandparken as the tourists.
The most impressive sculptures is without a doubt Vigelands unique 'Journey through Life' in the Vigeland Park.

The Nature Reservation of Northern Øyeren
Just 10 km south of Lillestrøm, lies the Nature Reservation of Northern Øyeren. Here Norway´s longest river pours into our forth greatest lake Øyeren. Forming a natural delta unique to this part of the world. Through the ages deposits from the spring flooding have created an ever changing landscape of islands and channels, ideal for wildlife and with more species of birds and fish than anywhere else in the Nordic countries. In the summer months a boat will take you through this fascinating landscape on a tour of the delta and the northern parts of the lake, where you may even spot beavers at work on the shore
Fetsund Timber floating Museum
Just where the river Glomma empties into Lake Øyeren, you find the small community of Fetsund. Here a museum commemorating the timber floating of the old days has been created. Documenting the way the people doing this dangerous and exotic work lived, the Fetsund Timber floating Museum is beautifully situated by the river Glomma.
