Most of the buses that go to the municipalities west of Oslo city, such as Baerum, Asker, Royken, Hurum and other places out west start at the Oslo central bus terminal "Galleri Oslo" (see my tip on this).
But perhaps more convenient for most day trippers or visitors to the west the buses make a stop just across from the National Library on Fredriks gate (street) and a little below the National Theatre Station at Vikaterrassen.
Check the signage for where exactly your bus will stop. Catching the bus here will save you the hassles of getting to the Oslo Bus Terminal.
NB! The long-distance buses do not stop here but bypass Oslo city centre underground.

The by far the fastest way of getting from to Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL) to the Oslo city centre is by the Airport Express Train. It takes 19 minutes on the 63 km long transit. A car or bus will take 45-50 minutes at least. Regular local trains are plodding the same line, are cheaper and a bit slower, but gets you to intermediate places where the airport express doesn't stop.
From the airport the Airport Express goes either directly to Oslo Central Station, some make a short stop at Lillestrom before Oslo C, and every second train continues past Oslo to Asker and Drammen (west of Oslo).
The fare is payable before getting aboard, at counters at all Airport Express railway stations, at OSL (to the right after exit from customs in the arrival hall). NOK 170 for the OSLO-Central station fare. Note that vending machine-purchased tickets are about 20 NOK cheaper than the counter-paid ones.
Put your ticket through the slot in the barrier and go down to the train one floor below. Plenty of space for luggage on this train.

For the summer 2009 - If you order early (now) some of the big companies offer you two weeks of car rental in August for around 9.000 NOK at AVIS (www.avis.no) and another at www.hertz.no for 6.000 NOK if you use the rebate code 706443 - that's roughly 1.400 US$ and 1.000 US$ at todays exchange rate. If you use additional rebates thru airmiles clubs, hotel memberships or carowners organizations like AAA, ADAC or other you should be able to get the price down even further.
The local Oslo company http://www.bisletbilutleie.no/ offers cars for 7.000-8.000 NOK for two weeks.
This is as good as it gets I think - but look for those extra rebates offered thru the clubs and organizations I mentioned.
Enjoy Scadinavia!

I went to Oslo by bus from Stockholm in Sweden. The bus company Swebus Express offers a bus service between both cities and the trip takes about 7,5 h.
Depending on the day of travel a single ticket from Stockholm to Oslo is between 265 SEK and 380 SEK (2004). The Bus Terminal of Oslo (Vaterland) is located just next to the Central Railway Station.

Bus number 91 is in fact a boat and travels between the main piers outside city hall to two stops on the museum island and back. Be aware it only runs during the summer months April until October, and is replaced during the colder months with a normal bus.

Radhusbrygge 3 (pier 3) waterfront of the Oslo City Hall is the place to get a 2 hour tour of the fjord. We only just made this trip so would advise trying to get to the boat a little early so you can get a good seat at the side. There is nothing more frustrating that you itching with a camera in the middle of the boat watching people holding cameras on the outside but not taking any pictures. Grrrrrr!
A little expensive but the views are worth it especially if you have a camera, you won't get many better view of the fjord houses.

The Oslo tunnelbane began as a network of suburban railroads which finally were connected through a city tunnel to form today's network of T-bane lines. So some lines date back to the end of the last century (Holmenkollbanen 1898). All western lines had their terminus station at Majorstuen until a 2 km long tunnel was built to Nationaltheatret in 1928.
As of 2008 the network consists of six lines which all run through the city centre. It has a daily ridership of 200,000 and 89 stations of which 16 are underground or indoors.

Oslo Tram is a 94 km tram system, with 6 lines and 100 stops.
Most of the tram lines in Oslo go near the downtown area, and all the lines on the system go either through downtown, or, more rarely, terminate there. As of 2005 There are six lines, all of which operate daily, usually on a schedule with a 10-minute headway, or 20-minute schedule during late evenings and weekends. The entire network is 131.4 km long. Many stretches are operated by two or more lines. In central areas, served by more than one line, there is a maximum of 5-minute headway between trams.

Sandefjord Airport Torp is located approx. 110 km south-west of Oslo
We used the Torp Express bus service corresponding with the flights to/from the airport. Coaches can be found outside the main airport terminal building and depart about 30 minutes after plane arrivals. July 2008 prices are 300 Kr return, and the journey takes about 1hr 30m. Tickets can be purchased from the coach driver on departure.
Torp – Ekspressen accept only Norwegian currency (NOK) or credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Diners or AmEx). the return ticket is valid for three months.
NSB offers a new train service from Oslo to the new train station Sandefjord Lufthavn Torp. The new station is located between Stokke and Sandefjord. There is a shuttle bus service between the airport and the train station, again this leaves from just outside the main terminal and is well signposted.
