In the summer, you do not need anything special. During winter - bring warm clothes! You have got to have a camera! You would definately want to have pictures from Norway and its unique nature and landscapes!

Warm jumpers, wool underwear and a solid raincoat- the weather can be a bit rough, even sometimes in the summer The light in Norway is said to have the colour of violet (lila)... DON*T FORGET YOUR VISA- OR MASTERCARD (with lots of money on your account; Norway is one of the most expensive countries in the world...)

Be prepared

by Kiisu

Consider buying some foreign currency BEFORE departing on your travels. I did this through my local bank before traveling overseas, and was very happy I did. Having one less hassle to contend with (namely the currency exchange line) when you walk off the plane is such a delight!

Holdalls are better than suitcases especially if you are staying in a small tent. Suitcases take up too much room and are not as easy to move around. Be prepared for all seasons, warm clothing, waterproofs/windproof jackets, warm hat, sun block, sun hat, sturdy walking boots if you intend to go off the beaten track. Mosquito repellent, do not go to Lapland without it .. or at least buy yourself some when you get there, it could make the difference between a wonderful holiday and one where you are afraid to step out of your tent for fear of being attacked. Don't think that covering your arms and legs will suffice, they can bite through thin layers of clothing .. the only answer is a good covering of DEET or an equally effective equivalent. If you are going to camp close to others you would do well to remember which tent is yours!

In Norway we have this saying: 'Bad weather doesn't excist, only bad clothing!' ...I'm not sure if I agree. Summer: the weather can be very changing, prepare for everything from beaching to rain, wind and low temperatures. Winter: it's cold here, so buy or bring warm shoes, warm jacket/coat, gloves and scarf. Summer: Mosquito repellant. If you are planning to hike buy or bring quality hiking shoes.

If you go to Norway be prepared for COLD and RAIN. Never mind - if there was a pleasant weather all the time, Norway would simply be too perfect. So it can get cold (even in the summer) and it can get pretty wet, especially on the Atlantic coast.BERGEN (where we actually got beautiful sunshine all the way) is actually the rainiest city in Europe. The rest of Norway also receives quite some precipitation so you should be equipped with a raincoat or an umbrella.Anyway, should you forget these, Bergen even has umbrella-machines for you (see photo).

Make sure you bring along with you thick winter jackets if you decide to go to Norway during the cold winter months as temperature can go down to minus 20 degrees Celcius.
