Any well stocked bar: A few words about Norwegian vodka

by Kjetil

If you like vodka, you should try our local brands. They are quite different from other Scandinavian vodkas. Actually, they don't have much character, but still, you should try one or two of them - just to make us happy. By the way - if you are one of those hedonists who destroy decent vodkas by mixing them with fruit juices, ice cubes, carbonated drinks, tonic water or other non-vodka substances, you should be aware of the fact that the Smirnoff red label vodka you find here in Norway is not distilled in the US, but rather in England or Italy, and that it may be a little different from the US version. Such is also the case in other European countries. Still - if you mix vodka, you probably don't care anyway. Norwegian vodkas are made from potatoes, not from grain. So - you may think that they taste just like Ukrainian vodkas. But, no - this is not the case. Norwegian vodkas are heavily...

Awful food

by mariquita

If you are a fish lover and come from the Mexican Pacific coast, you cannot be but disappointed with the fish in Norway. This country is supposed to be one of the main consumers of fish in the world, but their way to prepare could not be worst.I must say that we were doing a cruise and, then, the food was very artificial. But we went to some restaurants and our luck was not much better. And then the price of wine! O h my God! If I had to pick a place for worst value for money in restaurants, that would be Norway for sure.

Cafe Dronningen: Something for everyone!

by Moxx

The restaurant is found within a hotel called Hotel Norge.Open quite late until about 11pm.Busy throughout the day and evening so it is recommended that you book, however i didn't but thankfully because it was late i didnt need too.I was offered the speciality and on asking what it was i was told reindeer, i dont like venison and i rarely eat red meat. Staff were pleasant, very helpful.I think the wine bill was more expensive then the food bill though lmao

The Stua: Good Eats Up North

by Yarnripper

I hate to say it, but the sweetest meat I've ever tasted is Reindeer. My young nephew cried when I told him Norwegians ate them by the herd, and that reindeer was traditional fare for Christmas and other holidays. He thought I was aiding in the systematic eating off of Santa's reindeer and it took me a while to reassure him that it wasn't Donner or Blitzen or even Rudolph I was eating, just their friends and family. He was much relieved. The Stua serves up a lovely reindeer roast that still haunts me today. The small eatery is cozy, if not a tad out of place in the arctic fishing and ranching community of Alta, Norway (most popular for its top-notch salmon fishing). The decor is charming, if you don't mind having all manner of bodiless wildlife staring down at you as you eat. The walls are covered with the heads of as many animals as you can name in a minute, some I'm sure Norwegians...

Dry cods: Burk !

by GUYON

On the photograph : dried cods The usual menu in the Norwegian hotels and restaurants : a mushroom soup, salmon or cod or reindeermeat, potatoes (generally poor) + vegetable cooked in water (unsufficiently for my taste), a brown goatcheese (cut in thin slices), dessert (fruit mousse, icecream or rice with milk).

The northernmost european restaurant

by SirRichard

At the Nordkapp point there is a restaurant/Cafe/Souvenir shop where they serve a wonderful hot chocolate. Maybe I remember it as wonderful because there was bloody cold outside and the chocolate so warm. There you can find any possible souvenir about Nordkapp.

In summer time we eat outside....

by depresno

In summer time we eat outside. Bring your own food and lets have a barbeque.Maybe the food gets burned, but you'll have a great time with your friends. And if you look at the picture: Everybody has their own oppinion. Fish or meat. Everything will do.
