Any Norwegian restaurant in...

by Kjetil

Any Norwegian restaurant in November or December.Lutefisk must be one of the craziest dishes on the face of the Earth. Lutefisk translates to 'lye fish', and that is just what it is - dried and salted fish that has been soaked in lye for a couple of days, and then cooked. The result is of course an alcalic piece of fish that glows in the dark. It is served with boiled potatoes, mustard, mashed peas, fried bacon etc. etc. With your lutefisk, you drink beer and the typical Norwegian akvavit - a caraway flavored liquor. If you begin your meal by drinking half a liter of akvavit, the lutefisk may seem less scary - but unless you continue the akvavit until you lose conciousness completely, your first encounter with the lutefisk will be an unforgettable experience! Lutefisk!

Actually, I don't have a favourite. It depends on what I am in the mood for. In the towns, especially in the capitol (Oslo) you can find just about any cuisine you'd like. Traditionally Norwegian, Indian, Pakistani, Vietnamese, American.... and so on. And of course, you can always stop in at a Mc Donald's or Burger King! My favourite food would have to contain a whole lot of garlic..! Luckily my boyfriend has the same taste as me! :o) I think I have to say that Indian food is my favourite, I love the Naan bread!

This one will show different restaurant that I find is worth a visit. If you look to the whole country and should point out one favorite, it has to me homecooking and at my parents house in Trøndelag. At this sea-house we had a great fish-soup :-))Other alternatives - look at my Oslopage.

by marktbike

Well...it's hard to tell, because of the prices that are so incredibly high! Best choice to survive and taste the best food is to go to the markets and buy the wonderful fish they bring and sell every day. My point of view is that of a not-rich-Italian traveler, but to give you an idea: a dish of fried cod and vegetables (not a huge one!) and a small bottle of beer produced in the brewery next street from the bar, I paid for this something like 25 euros! Of course I avoided whale steaks, it was too horrible to think about eating those poor, delicate, huge animals. So my food was fish from the markets and hot-dogs you can find everywhere in the petrol stations! Save your money and enjoy!

by gnowk

Eek. Eating out in Norway was prohibitively expensive. To make things worse, the government had added an extra tax of around 24% making dining out even more unaffordable. I would suggest bringing food from other countries or just simply to save your appetite for more affordable countries... ;)

Timber Cafe at Vesterland FerieparkThe chef who also runs the restaurant is really professional and his cooking can only be described as Cordon Bleu. Never had such tasty succulent meals.Good atmosphere with relaxing background music.Prices are not bad for Norway. Excellent cuisine whatever you choose. The steaks are first class.

by Jeannette1

Here is a pic of the Bryggen Tracteursted Restaurant which was recommended to us for Norwegian food. It's the oldest tavern in Norway (300 years old). We were hoping to see some local residents there but found ourselves to be in a room full of Japanese tourists LOLThe food was good but expensive (as I had expected).
