You can go by car or by bus no 10 to Østhusvik through Rennfast. Rennfast is a part of road E39 northbound, which goes through two underwater tunnels 5860 m long / 223 m below sea level and 4410 m long / 133 m below sea level, and over two bridges. Since 28 July 2006 the road is toll free.

Bus 10 leaves from stops no 17 and 19 downtown Stavanger once every hour, twice in the rush hours. From Østhusvik to Brimse there is one daily ferry around 3 pm and one in the opposite direction in the morning. At least in the school season, this is the school boat. The best thing to do is to call Frode at +47 91 81 37 74 or +47 51 72 37 54 to arrange a pickup.

By car: Go Madlaveien (road 509) westbound out of town, turn right onto E39 and drive through the two tunnels (there is an on land tunnel first). When you emerge on Rennesøy, turn right at the sign for Østhusvik.

The most convenient way to get to Brimse is by boat. If you don't have your own, you can do as we did; rent one :-) Or take the express boat from the main ferry terminal at a cost of NOK 44 one way. The ticket office / information is open:

Monday - Thursday: 07:45 - 16:45
Friday. 07:45 - 18:15
Saturday: 07:30 - 13:00
Sunday: 10:30 - 13:00

You can also get information about the boats at the information center in the main bus terminal (right beside the railway station)
Monday - Friday: 07:00 - 18:00
Saturday: 08:00 - 15:00

Or dial number 177. This number gives you local travel information wherever you are in Norway, and works between:

Coming to Brimse is like going back in time. It is a small island in the Boknafjord, half an hour by express boat north-east of the norwegian "petroleum capital" Stavanger. Of the inhabitated islands...
