  • I really enjoy playing squash and I ty to play a couple of times each week. There are several places to play squash around Stavanger. The best place is "Sola Racket senter" at Røyneberg. This place has 8 courts but you should book ahead at least if you are playing after 4 pm. You can also play at Tasta and this also has 8 courts if I'm not mistaken. But I don't play at Tasta very often because the courts have concrete walls and I prefer the wooden walls.

You can rent the racket at the Squash center but you should bring your own shoes.

    Havanna Badeland - Sandnes

  • If you're visiting Stavanger, have children and are stuck for something to do to entertain them, then Havana Badeland is a good place to bring them. Even if you don't have children, you might enjoy relaxing here for a couple of hours.

The swimming complex is spread over several layers and has something for everyone. There are slides, pools (including a wave pool), a canal with fast moving currents along with saunas and jacuzzis. There is an area for very small children and if the weather is good, you can sit out on the sun terrace.

For adults only, there is a separate section called the Roman Bath with a decor to reflect the name. Here you can relax in peace without those pesky children running around! This section has a steam bath, saunas, jacuzzis with some comfortable sofas for anyone who wants to lounge around.

The centre that houses Havana Badeland also has an indoor playland for younger children. Next to the entrance to the swimming complex is a ten-pin bowling centre. The pool is open all year round but it’s worth checking before going in summer as sometimes it closes for repairs and renovation.

Getting there is fairly straightforward but it's very easy to miss. As you head along Hanaveien, the built up areas disappear and it's easy to think that you've gone too far but eventually, on your right, you come to a large, light coloured brick building that looks nothing like a swimming complex. In fact the thing that grabs your attention are the signs advertising the two supermarkets (which are also part of the complex) and the entrance to a car park, but this in fact is it. As you turn in, you should see the banner for Havana. The entrance to the swimming complex is down the stairs just past the bowling centre.

All in all, a good place to visit, especially for those with families.

If you've forgotten to pack your swimming things or want to replace a costume that's seen better days, you can buy swimming costumes, goggles etc. at the entrance but the selection is fairly limited.

Bore beach south of Stavanger is one of the few good surf spots in Norway. The beach is popular for surfing, but there are not enough surfers in Norway to make it crowded ;)

Thick wetsuit, it is not the warmest waters in the world ;)

You can enjoy at least the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Stavanger...
Last year it was amazing... I will let the photos speaking for me.
I have to mention that all the "beaches" are artificial, and the sand is imported from the surrounding beaches in Rogaland.

Something as noisy as possible to encourage your preferred team...
