The Norwegian Petroleum Museum shows its interesting face starting from its architecture. It is said that there is hardly a building in Norway that signals its function as obviously as the Oil Museum. And when you'll see it you'll know it is right. Insight, the museum offers a complete image of the domain for oil professionals as well as for the rest of visitors. Even the children will enjoy at least their playground( a platform in miniature) and the 3D film "Petropolis". A visit there will costs you 80 Nok/adult and 40 Nok for children.

It is a very nice park still looking wild. The view to the city is nice and the playground for your kids is breathtaking… for them and you too Address: Around the "Konserthus"Directions: You will find it very easy on all the maps (available everywhere). Only 5 minutes to walk from the Central Square.

On 12.01.2008 Stavanger started the year as the new European Capital of Culture. They have prepared the event very nice and perhaps all the region came here for the festivities. I have seen at least 50 thousands people in the city center. I couldn't imagine that here are living so many people and I was honestly impressed. I cannot tell you very much about the program because it was so crowded that |I couldn’t see very well what happened. But the crowd, the music, the parades were really nice. Let’s take together a look at what happened here on 12...

There were organized four or five parades. I have seen only four of them... This is the "Big Parade". All the towns around Stavanger were doing their best to have a word at the parade. I am happy to share with you some images...

As I did everywhere, I have spent a lot of time looking on the streets. I have to show you some streets in Stavanger too. Here I can feel better than somewhere else that I am in a different country... so different! And I have to recognize that I was lucky enough to be here on 12.01.2008.Comparing with the other almost 6.5 billion people on the Earth which were missing the event... I was lucky, weren't I? :) Address: Everywhere in the city and in the surrounding areaDirections: Go to the old city on Saturdays, on Sunday at Mostvannet or Stokka and you will see it...

You must go there for a look. And, if your time is not limited...try to walk there from the city center:) This is what I did once. It is about 5 km from my place and of course I have walked to Madlasandnes too. The view from the highest mountain there is beautiful. If you are lucky to have a sunny day, you will not forget the experience soon. The place is so quiet and helps you feel better Norway with it's special taste... Address: 5 km south west from StavangerDirections: You have just to follow the Madlaveien... you will see the swords very easy.

The cathedral is placed right in the center of the town, between the main harbor and Breiavatnet . The Norway's oldest cathedral was built around 1125 and dedicated to St. Swithun. It is the only Norwegian cathedral from the Middle Ages that has retained its original appearance and been in constant use.

The lake seems to be the meeting place of the old wood houses of the town and the modern buildings on the other side. You can spend enjoyable moments walking by the lake or trying to feed swans and pigeons - which is pretty difficult because of the hungry and speedy seagulls. Address: Haakon VIIs gate

Part of the Stavanger Museum, the Zoological section presents birds and mammals from all around the world. The birds exhibition is really rich and interesting. The museum is opened every day except on Mondays and a ticket costs about 60 NOK /adult. With this ticket you can also visit Stavanger Maritime Museum and Norwegian Canning Museum in the same day. Address: Muségt. 16, Stavanger
