Knowing the Botanical garden is open all year round, we decided to visit it. Unfortunately, at this time of year (in November) the plants are not in their best period and the garden does not have greenhouses. But anyway, it is a nice place to walk:)

We have admired the well-known Lysefjord from a comfortable sightseeing boat of the Rodne Company. The tour takes about 3 hours and offers you unforgettable images of Stavanger, of the fjord, the Pulpit Rock, beautiful waterfalls, rocks and caves, Norwegian summerhouses along the coastline... At this time of the year, you can enjoy this cruise on Saturdays and Sundays and only if there are at least 15 tourists on board.

by Maria_75 Stavanger is the fourth largest city in Norway. It is located in the west of the country, in Rogaland county district. Stavanger is most famous for big the oil-capitol of Norway. Many oilcompanies are located here. The old part of the city, Straen, has the best preserved woodhouses in northern Europe. Near the small lake Breiavatnet lies the citypark and the church. Stavanger is the oil city of Norway. People go from here to the oil (and gas) rigs on the north sea. So it is a very logical place to have th Oil museum. The museum is located in an impressive building down the harbour next to ferries. Inside the museum is a wide open space with all sorts of things having to do with oil. We found it usefull to watch the video first. It gave a short history about how oil came to be and how they "dig" it up. After that we saw more oil history, scale models of oil rigs. They were made to perfection. Because in the pre computer era, people checked these models to see if all cables and pipes where properly (read safely) placed to avoid accidents.

It was allways a nice to find over the corner a nice statue having the roots in the old stories of the city. I will post here some photos with the statues I love. They are so real and they are making from Stavanger a warm city. They make you feel at home even if you are thousands kilometers away from your place. The scenes are so familiar and it seems to be normal to find them in those places.

Beach and path by Rusket You don't have to go to Jæren to find beaches, although the Jæren beaches are bigger and more sandy. The city beaches are spread along Gandsfjorden, they are small and cozy. Go by bus no 4 to Rosenli or no 6 to Godalen and walk between the buildings down walkways to the fjord (see my Rosenli tip or the "bike or hike" tip right above for more info and linked map.) The beach at Vaulen is a bit larger than the Rosenli and Godalen ones, several buses take you there: No 1, 2 and 3 for sure. The depicted beach is situated by Rosenli. Leave a Comment Address: Rosenli, Godalen or VaulenDirections: Rosenli and Godalen: Storhaug, Stavanger east. Vaulen: South of Stavanger, along road no 44 towards Sandnes.

by Fallguy450 As I work in the industry and was in Norway to work offshore, the oil museum was a must see for me. I found it to be very interesting, although expensive to get in @ $15. CDN(...everything is expensive in Norway). If you've ever wondered how the offshore industry works and how it ties into everyday living, check it out. It would help to bring a pal with a little insight in oil... Directions: Down by the ferry terminal

Right near downtown and old town Stavanger.

Around Stavanger there are some really nice beaches. One of my favorites is the Hellestoe beach.
