  • Is a cruise a good way to see Norway?

    Olden Transportation

I had been tossing around going to Norway for a few years an ultimately decided on a large cruiseship for a few reasons. First off, I'm one of those travelers who likes to eat locally but nothing in the Norwegian diet, which seems to be heavy in fish and game, really excited me. Second, Norway like most of the Scandanavian countries, is extremely...

    Olden Favorites

There are many cruise lines that visit Norway, while we were in various ports we saw Costa, Princess, P&O, Azamara Club, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and many other smaller ships. The prime cruise season is short, when we asked about going in early September most advised against it because of the cooler weather, shorter days and as I've found after,...

In the evening of the first night in Røros I was looking for a place to have a beer. It happend that I passed by the Hiort Pub. Here I found what I was looking for. You can - - - - nearly ----- get to Snillfjord by Kystekspressen ship. They dock at Sandstad on Hitra Island just across the Trondheimsleia Sound, 10 minutes by car/bus from Snillfjord proper. Kystekspressen plies the Trondheim-Hitra-Kristiansund v.v. route with fast ships.

Two roads of mention pass through Snillfjord municipality. One transects from southeast through to Hitra in the northwest, county road No. 714. Deviating from this at Vaavatnet is a road crossing west to Kyrksaeterora. Since there are no other major roads and no scheduled boat routes, these roads will form your skeleton access to Snillfjord.There...

    Brekstad Nightlife

BarRock is a cozy bar which usually has live music Fridays and Saturdays. It's located right by the harbour at Brekstad, right by where the ferry comes in! It's the most popular place to go at night, it's been around for a few years, but it relocated in the beginning of this summer, so now it's more space, which is good, cause it can get...

    Brekstad Off The Beaten Path

There's a little place about 4km from the mainstreet in Brekstad called Holdnesøra, or known as Døsvika by most people, this is a wonderful place to watch the sun set in the ocean during the summer! There's a great place to sit, with benches and tables, even a small fireplace for bbq-ing, if that's desireable. Rose bushes, plants and trees surround...

There is a central bus terminal at Orkanger with routes to Trondheim, Vaernes Airport, Agdenes, Hitra-Frøya Islands, Kristiansund, Aure, Surnadal valley/Ålesund/Molde, and Berkåk with train connection toward Oslo.
The buss time tables on the internet are not well coordinated, so it takes an effort to understand what buses/when gose between Trondheim and Orkanger (45 min). Note that some buses are local, taking you on the old road along the coast toward Trondheim.

I was here for a conference, so I cannot vouch for the quality of the restauarnt, only for the food we got. Lunch was great. Dinner was a treat. Breakfast just right. Not a WIDE menu selection, but definitely with a mountain touch. Fried mountain trout, cucumber slad, sour cream and potatoes. So simple, but so delicious.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Munkholmen, the fascinating 'Monks Island' is not to be missed! This little island with a fort is situated in Trondheim harbour and served as Trondheim's execution ground and special prison in ancient times. Benedictine munks built a monastery on the island early in the 11th century, and in 1658 it became a prison.
Today the island is a popular recreational area, with good bathing and an OK restaurant. It's also a museum.
    Daily boats,which takes about 15 minutes,from Ravnkloa.
