Stryn is not only famous for the beautiful fjord landscape, but also for its Summer Ski Centre.Stryn Summer Ski Centre is considered Norway's best summer skiing resort. From mid-may until the beginning of October the sport fans can go skiing on the alpine slopes of the Stryn Summer Ski Centre, while during the winter months there are good skiing conditions around Stryn centre. The Stryn Ski Centre has also two lifts, ski rental, ski school and cafeteria.Stryn Summer Ski Centre is situated by "Gamle Strynefjellsvegen", the old road over Stryn Mountain, 32 kilometers east of Strynsvatn Camping.

Glacier Walks (Loen)

by Diana75

Certainly the most interesting thing to do in the glaciers' area is do a special tour with iceclimbing. For enjoying a spectacular blue ice view, numerous hiking trails are covering the glaciers. The tours can be also guided and must be booked in advanced.

Dog Sleding At the Villamarkssenter

by GypsyLightChaser

What fun this is! Riding through the snow in a sled with the dogs barking gleefully. Snow covered mountains, the light dancing off the snow, crisp air hitting your face..it is magic! After your ride you return to go into a nice warm Llavo (tipi) to sit on reindeer hides by a nice hot fire and have a delicious reindeer stew, hot coffee and cake. The owner Tova is one of the few female Musher's in the sport. She is wonderful and will make sure that your ride is one of a lifetime:) The Center provides all the clothing and things to keep you nice and warm. Make sure you wear a couple of pairs of warm socks.

Svellnosbreen Glacier Tour

by NEILHALLIDYA

Organised from the Spitursluten Hostel you can go on a tour of the Svellnosbreen Glacier. The tour costs 150kr.You need to be reasonably fit, the hike to the glacier takes an hour and a half and you spend the whole day on rough terrain. You do get to magical ice pillars, caves, and explore a crevasse. The hostel provides crampons and rope. However, you need to provide your own warm weather gear (it gets cold inside the glacier), drink and food.Obviously, you need sturdy walking boots.

Fishing in Norway - Part 2

by Saagar

Part 2)In September-October, however, you are in for an excellent season for an underrated fish called Arctic Greyling - "harr" in Norwegian. This fish is a relative of the trout, but more silvery and closer to the whitefish in looks. It's an avid insect eater and is easy to catch by flyfishing. But it takes small spoons, spinners and worms, too. The greyling spawns in the spring and wherever there is greyling there will be open rivers in the autumn. But again, do ask first. Greyling can be found in the Lake Mjøsa, Lågen and north to river Rauma (the watershed is a lake - Lesjaskog - where the rivers drain the lake from two sides) water courses, and eastwards to the Swedish border; Glomma/Femunden/Trysilelv water courses. There is also plenty of greyling in Finnmark in Northern Norway. Apart from the greyling fishing, there may be some late salomon rivers (such as Drammenselva or...

Fishing in Norway Part 1

by Saagar

Part 1) Here is a run-down on the essentials. For freshwater and saltwater fishing you do not need a licence from the state, with the following exception: fishing for salomon, sea trout and sea char. These are anaedrome fishes that migrate seasonally between fresh water and salt water. For these types of fish you need to buy a state licence at post offices or sports goods stores. It costs NOK 180 = EUR 22.However, the state or private land owners and cooperatives controlling the freshwater fishing areas frequently ask for a licence covering their waters. That means you should check out this in sports goods stores (and in smaller places, the gas stations, hotels, farms etc.). The fee varies from about 10 Euro and up, much more in the super salomon rivers. For salomon, sea trout and sea char you will need such a local licence in addition to the state licence.Unless you are actively fishing...
