THE CRADLE OF SKIING

by troll

Skiing originated in Norway. Words like ski and slalom are Norwegian. Ski jumping and slalom competition started in the county of Telemark. Today there are dozens of winter resorts with thousands of miles of marked trails for the cross country skiing as well as lift centres for downhill and slalom. Ski enthusiast can also go skiing on the Olympic facilities in Lillehammer, where Alberto Tomba and Vegard Ulvang were cheered on by tens of thousands of spectators during the Olympic Winter Games in February 1994.

You must see the glaciers, drive toward Jotunheim on the highest road in Europe (where people ski in shorts during mid-summer), visit the national gallery of Norway in Oslo and also the vigeland sculpture park there. You should also see the viking ship museum there with the amazing collection of Viking artifacts. It includes everything I love, Nature, Art and history

by Snoekie

Preikestolen is probably the most beautiful thing in Norway. You have to walk for 2 hours to get there, but it's definitely worth it. It is a square shaped rock you can sit on from which you have a view straight down (600 meters!) into the fjord!

by Irenoghege

Challenge the nature at Kjerag.Standing on a rock hovering houndreds of metres above the fjord. A thrilling experience for some. For those who are not fond of heights, however, this is not the spot. This is also a infamous spot for basejumping. But you are not allowed to jump from Kjerag unless you have 250 jumps experience behind you. And the statistics are not good: Each year one person is killed in this practice... This year a woman from the States has already died.

by Irenoghege

See the beautiful glaciers; eternal snow that never melts. So massive and ancient! You can also go climbing and treking on the glaciers, but only together with a group and guide.Beware: Simply going too close to this massive ice might be mortal, as they 'calve' (The ice has a plastic/plasmic substance, and is in constant move. Sometimes pieces of it fall of, and it can be a hard avalanche...)

The sculpture park of Vigeland

by Irenoghege

See the sculptures made of Gustav Vigeland. The park is filled with naked people at all ages in different positures, expressing emotions and relationship. You don't have to be shy, it's not at all intimidating. They are great for taking photos. You can spend all day here, bring your friends and lunch, and enjoy the artworks and the athmosphere.

The Quart-festival

by jenny

If you are in southern Norway in summertime, you should definitely try to get to Kristiansand during this huge rock festival. Whether you want to see the conserts or not, the charming southern town is seething with people and activity, and the best DJ's in the world makes clubbing a new experience! Half of Oslo's nighttime population seems to be here at the time!

by sedai

Take the train from Oslo to Flom. This is a very nice trip and the train trip down from Hardangervidda to the fjord is special nice whit an amassing view of the waterfalls and the fjords. Here you take the boat to Bergen to see the fjords up close and personal. Visit Bergen fore some days to se the city, then take the boat to Stord here you take a ferry in one of the fjords to Sunde and then a bus for 1 hour to Rosendal. This is an impressive view of the fjords and mountains; here you can stay over the night on a beautiful hotel 'Rosendal hotell' or in a cabin at the camping ground. There are also some private homes that take in some backpackers. The next day you take the local bus to Mauranger her you can use your feet's to walk the famous 'Kaiser pfad' or emperor path that emperor of Germany Willhem made during one of his many visits to beautiful Mauranger. This path will take you up...

by Luis_Alberto

Norway is a sport's lover paradise, wether it is hiking, skying or kayaking. You find it in Norway, in abundance and great quality. The mountains and fjords of Norway are an ideal place for these activities. Norway is quite large, and its population is less than five million people, which makes it great, for finding some beautiful places, with very people around.
