Outdoor beer at Aker brygge

by Kjetil

In Oslo, the area called Aker brygge is very popular during spring and summer. Lots of us go there because of so-called 'utepils' which translates to 'outdoor pilsner beer'. For some reason, most Norwegians find that drinking beer outside is as close to Heaven as you can get. After a day or two in Oslo, you will probably be aware of the fact that a glass of beer can be rather expencive - to say the least... Well, my friend - just wait til you are paying for your glass of pilsner at Aker brygge. BEWARE!!! Drink your beer at Lompa instead!

Shopping around doesn't help

by Kjetil

At some time during your visit to Norway, you'll probably find yourself in a souvenir shop wondering why the Hell a small plastic troll have a price tag that would be more fitting on an Italian sports car. If you think about searching for the same plastic troll to a better price somewhere else, forget about it. Norwegian souvenirs cost the same wherever you find them - except at the main airports where they are even more expencive.

Beware of Nordkapp

by Kjetil

OK - so you want to see the midnight sun - to stand on the Northern tip of Europe and look out at the calm ocean while the nocturnal rays of romantic sunshine reflects in your hair. FORGET NORDKAPP!!!The Nordkapp plateu is controlled by a private company, and you have to pay through your nose to even enter the area - where you can stand in a windy spot - and most likely not see any sun at all - since it is cloudy 160 nights per year. DON'T GO! Period! A much better alternative is just to enjoy the midnight sun at any other spot north of the arctic circle during your visit to Norway. Midnight sun is just as lovely in every other location. When you get back home - just lie to all your friends saying that you of course visited Nordkapp. It's that simple.

Feristdanger, that is something you have to look out for when you are off the beaten path. Its used to keep the animals inside a area and as there is not allowed to put up fences on some roads, they use this roadbarrels.

Think about this - you enter Oslo with your chopter, and suddenly the sky is full of other chopters. I guess you should check on the air activity before arriving with your exclusive transportation. Just a tip for you first class travellers.

All right, there's nothing to do. But it's a trap, anyway. It's the toll you have to pay when you enter the Nordkapp area. I know that tourism is a great resource and it must be exploited, but Nordkapp had a romantic aura that is completely lost when you arrive there and are asked about your home country (Statistics). But the real problem is when you're asked for some 15 euros or so, and that's Economics. Of course you have free admittance to the Tourist Center and the shops and the bar and so on...but a romantic soul that reached the 71° 21' 11' latitude north place just because it's the place where the land ends isn't really interested in the touristic crap. More, you can't ride your bike to the monument anymore, the way is accurately patrolled and you can say goodbye to your idea of an immortal picture with your only love made of steel (a system of concepts worked out in steel, as...

by gorskial

When in Bergen, forget about the funicular to get on top of Mt Floyen. It's only gonna take you about 20 minutes to walk up there and, of course, you're gonna save 50NOK per head, which I think is way too expensive for a 800m ride.

Places to get a suntan are usually a tourist trap. A fun alternative and actually a faster way to get a tan, is finding a snowy spot late in the spring. The reflection from the snow has an effect that will give a tan faster that you would realise.
