One of the real cannons can still be visited in the mountains closeby Harstad, BUT it was not part of the tour by the Hurtigruten-excursion. At least we saw some repilca-parts and explanations in the museum.
Adolfkanone was the largest landbased Cannon of WW II, with calibre 40,6 cm. The cannon had a length of 21,5 meters and a weight of 158,664 Tons. The "Adolfshell" had a weight of 600kg and a range of 56 km.

In case that you are interested in WW II and cannons:
In Moevik you can still see the 2nd largest Cannon of WW II

Trondernes Historiske Senter in Harstad is an interesting museum close to the Trondernes church and a visit to this museum is part of the Hurtigruten-excursion as well ! This museum is mainly about christianity in this part of Norway plus some more exhibits like the biggest Cannon based on land of the WW II - more about it in my next tip & in the travelogues !

and on Sundays the museum and the Cafe is open :

Trondernes church is considdered to be the northernmost medieval church on earth and you will find it a bit outside of Harstad on the bank of the Fjord. Take a closer look at the great architecture and at the wooden belfry closeby (in my last picture).
Make sure to go INside of the church as well - hopefully it will be open when you are in Harstad !
See some great pics of the interior in my next tip and also in the travelogues !

'Gamle Bryggen'; New place to go out in Harstad! Has the same owner as Metzo, and I think it will be a very popular place to go! You'll find a restaurant in 3rd floor and a piano- bar in 1st floor, in 2nd floor there is a disco!
You have to be 24 years old, and you can meet a lot of people....not only the 18 years old... They also have a bijard- table!

Dress Code: Come as you want to, but a bit nice!

Hurtigruten has a regular stop in Harstad on the northbound voyage at 06.45 - 08.00am and in the southbound voyage between 08.00 and 08.30am. So all you can do is take a short walk to town, BUT all the sights that are explained here in my page are much too far away to do that while the ship is in port.
So you have to take the bustour from Harstad to Sortland like I did, and I really enjoyed it a lot !
And when your tour is almost over - you might be lucky like I was : while we crossed the bridge in order to join our ship in Sortland, our ship passed by right under that bridge - see it in my last picture !

our bus is on the bridge & our ship is below !
