Very helpful Tourist Information office

Prepare in your mind what you want to see and to do. This office is very helpful and professional. The personal is friendly and help you to your satisfaction. Ask for bus numbers to go to small fishing villages, Nothern Light tours, cable car, etc.

Explore fishing villages

by Toshioohsako

You should go to the tourism office and ask for the buses which take you to beautiful fishing villages. It will take an hour but its really worth doing. You will see superb and unspoiled nature and village scenes. You can also enjoy the landscpe while riding in a bus - its warm and cozy.

Glass blowing

by AlexInacio

The most northerly glass-blowing workshop in the world. I was walking past at closing time but the friendly staff allowed me in and a trainee glass-blower gave me a demonstration on the technique. They sell their products on site from the classy to the quirky. Well worth a quick visit. Admission is free.

Balsfjorden

by Cristian_Uluru

Just one hundred Km from Tromso you can see the wonderful Balsfjorden. Following the E8 you can see wonderful landscape. There is only a pity: in the part the E8 became a motorway so it is very difficult to stop to have a photo!

Koppangsbreen Glacier

by Cristian_Uluru

Along the E6 toward Alta, after the village of Olderdalen, you can see on your left this glacier. Near it there are some other glaciers, like the Strupbreen Glacier, all located in the Lyngen Peninsula. They are fantastic!!!

Lyngen Alps

by Cristian_Uluru

Lyngen Alps are one of the most interesting mountains of the region. There you can see many glaciers in a wonderful landscape. If you want to see them you must take the road toward Breivikeidet about 10 Km far from Tromso When you reach Breivikeidet there is ferry which cross the Ullsfjorden and carry you in the Lyngen Peninsula. Driving head you arrive to Lyngseidet and a ferry carry you to Olderdalen through the Kafjorden.

Tromso

by Cristian_Uluru

The town of Tromso is home of the world's northernmost university, brewery and botanical garden. The town is located about 350 km north of the Arctic It is located in a wonderful place and it has got some interesting building that you can see like the Polarmuseet, Tromsdalen Kirke and Storstein from where you can have a wonderful wiev over the town.More information on my Tromso page.

Polaria - must see!

by kirstylm

The Polaria Museum - well worth the visit! You start off by seeing a film documentary on life in the arctic circle, and then you get to experience a variety of things within this informative centre - seals, crabs, other fish and anemone, fake snowfall, growling sleeping polar bear, ski mobile, and lots of information on the wildlife in the area!

The northern lights

by Bob_Shan

It was my dream to see the northern lights ever since I was a kid, the this was the exact motivation for me to come to Tromsø this winter. We were lucky, we saw the lights on the new year's day of 2006! It was a dark, cold and clear day. We went to a frozen lake called Prestvannet where no city lights could disturbe. We wait until 9:30pm and saw the first trait of the mysterious light. It was green, and changing all the time, like a green silk ribbon dancing in the sky. Sometimes it occupied the entire sky and formed various shapes, sometimes it became so weak that you have to keep your eyes wide open in order to see it.I failed to capture it with camera. Only faint green color left on my film as the lights were weak and moving, only the stars were relatively obvious. I guess only the professionals may capture great pictures.

A fantastic view!

by Toshioohsako

Take a cable car up (421 meter). You can ask the tourism office which bus takes you to the cable car station.Once you are up, you have a fantastic view of Tromso and its surroundings.
