    Tromsø Things to Do

This is one of two major art galleries in Tromsø (the other is the Tromsø Gallery of Contemporary Art or Tromsø Kunstforening, which we didn’t get round to visiting). As the name suggests, it focuses on art about and from Northern Norway, covering the period from the early 19th century to the present day. It also has temporary exhibitions – when we...

  • Flying to Tromsø

    Tromsø Transportation

We flew to Tromsø with Scandinavian Airlines from London Heathrow, via Oslo. It was quite an early flight, although delayed a little by snow at Heathrow. As it wasn’t a budget airline we had expected to be served at least a light breakfast but once on board we discovered that only tea and coffee were complimentary and as we were hungry we had to...

    Harstad Nightlife

'Gamle Bryggen'; New place to go out in Harstad! Has the same owner as Metzo, and I think it will be a very popular place to go! You'll find a restaurant in 3rd floor and a piano- bar in 1st floor, in 2nd floor there is a disco! You have to be 24 years old, and you can meet a lot of people....not only the 18 years old... They also have a bijard-...

  • Hurtigruten Coastal Steamer

    Skjervøy Transportation

Northbound coastal steamers arrive in Skjervøy daily at 10:45PM, departing for Kirkenes roughly 30 minutes later. Southbound steamers arrive daily at 7:45PM, departing shortly thereafter for the journey to Bergen. To get to or from Skjervøy, you'll normally take a "port-to-port" trip. The website has a list of up-to-date fares and cabin options....

  • Sami Couple

    Skjervøy Favorites

It was quite interesting to see a Sami couple in traditional dress board the coastal steamer. In this case, they were not dressed to impress tourists. They were merely wearing their traditional clothing for a trip, much as I might wear a suit on a business trip. I didn't get to meet them personally, but they remained on the boat and got off at...

  • Breathtaking Scenery

    Skjervøy Favorites

While sitting aboard our coastal steamer, we couldn't help but notice the gorgeous scenery all around. Look past the breakwater (again way out of proportion with the size of the village to accommodate the huge coastal steamer) and admire the magnificent mountains.

    Gåsvær Things to Do

Believe me or not but there are many whales in the Norwegian Sea. I saw them on a regular basis on my daily walk to university in Tromsø Sound. But I'm also almost sure you will see whales if you take the trip to Gåsvær through Kvalsundet. This sound is not very trafficated by ships, so you could call it a paradise for whales and other...

    Gåsvær Favorites

One of my nicest Gåsvær memories is the beach barbecue we did there. We brought everything with us (and took also the rubbish back) so that we didn't hurt Mother Nature. It's so nice to sit on this sandy beach, eating sausage (or fresh caught fish) and watching the lovely scenery of wild North Norwegian nature.Picture taken from...

Fishing: Go hire a cabin with a fishing boat - and fish till you drop in the fjords
or you can buy a fish card and go up in many of the small lakes around and fish for trout for example

Climbing: Many mountains to climb, but be carefull - the stones are old and full of ghosts.

Pure Nature: Just be in the nature

Relaxation: If you need quietness - you will find it here
