Okay, now that old Cliffie has sold you the idea of a trip to Sandefjord, how do you get there? You can see from the map (click for a better view) that Torp airport, only 15 minutes by bus from Sandefjord, is attracting more and more lowcost carriers, who market the airport as a cheaper gateway to Oslo, 100 kilometres farther north. When old Cliffie's flight arrived, there was a general rush for the buses to Oslo. Old Cliffie was the only passenger on the town bus into Sandefjord.

This airport is also called Oslo South airport. Don't let that fool you! Oslo is some hours away from this airport. There are buses going that way though.
For me this airport is ideal, straight route from Schiphol. From one Schengen country to the other so no passport hassles but WITH tax free shopping for NON EU travel. And best point of all it brings me close to where i want to be. What more could a girl want?
It is a very small airport so no long gateways to the plain, you just walk from the terminal building on the platform to the plain.
They have modernised the terminal building last year so it looks all fresh and clean.

If you are flying into Norway via Torp airport you are actually almost to Sandefjord. Well technically that is in Sandefjord. You can take the bus service from Telemarkekspressen on their way from Seljord to Tønsberg. You can get off at the train station.
Another option would be to use a taxi the entire way or just to the train station from Torp airport. EIther way it is not a long trip and you can get around the main center of Sandefjord on foot.

I took the train from Sandefjord to Oslo. it takes 1 hour and 50 minutes. The train to Oslo leaves Sandefjord 39 minutes over each hour. if you're a student you'll pay 163, non-student pay around 200 +- NK.

The Color Line provides daily sailings across the Skagerrak between Sandefjord and Stromstad in Sweden. The crossing takes just over two hours and is certainly better than the drive of nearly 250 kilometres around the Oslo fjord. After that, it is only another 500 kilometres to Stockholm.

The harbour of Sandefjord late afternoon in wintertime. There are lots of lucky people in Sandefjord with a view on the sea from their houses.
