by CliffClaven Okay, now that old Cliffie has sold you the idea of a trip to Sandefjord, how do you get there? You can see from the map (click for a better view) that Torp airport, only 15 minutes by bus from Sandefjord, is attracting more and more lowcost carriers, who market the airport as a cheaper gateway to Oslo, 100 kilometres farther north. When old Cliffie's flight arrived, there was a general rush for the buses to Oslo. Old Cliffie was the only passenger on the town bus into Sandefjord. Theme: Airplane

This airport is also called Oslo South airport. Don't let that fool you! Oslo is some hours away from this airport. There are buses going that way though. For me this airport is ideal, straight route from Schiphol. From one Schengen country to the other so no passport hassles but WITH tax free shopping for NON EU travel. And best point of all it brings me close to where i want to be. What more could a girl want? It is a very small airport so no long gateways to the plain, you just walk from the terminal building on the platform to the plain. They have modernised the terminal building last year so it looks all fresh and clean.

by CliffClaven The Color Line provides daily sailings across the Skagerrak between Sandefjord and Stromstad in Sweden. The crossing takes just over two hours and is certainly better than the drive of nearly 250 kilometres around the Oslo fjord. After that, it is only another 500 kilometres to Stockholm. If you are flying into Norway via Torp airport you are actually almost to Sandefjord. Well technically that is in Sandefjord. You can take the bus service from Telemarkekspressen on their way from Seljord to Tønsberg. You can get off at the train station. Another option would be to use a taxi the entire way or just to the train station from Torp airport. EIther way it is not a long trip and you can get around the main center of Sandefjord on foot. by Hildeal I took the train from Sandefjord to Oslo. it takes 1 hour and 50 minutes. The train to Oslo leaves Sandefjord 39 minutes over each hour. if you're a student you'll pay 163, non-student pay around 200 +- NK. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

Southern Actor-Sandefjord by bpwillet Whaling was a huge part of the culture and economy of Sandefjord. Almost 3000 men from the town and area were employed by whaling boats from the late 1800's and made Sandefjord a center for international whaling. With many expeditions heading to the far reaches of the artic and Antartica the town boomed with the spoils of this industry. The "Southern Actor" is the only boat left from the modern whaling days restored to its original condition. Built in 1950 this whale boat would be a part of a group of whale boats in the Antarctic. You can walk on its decks and through the onboard quarters which are still visited by old whalers-some having worked on the "Actor" when it was still commissioned as a whaling vessle. Most of the boats were lost during WWII or modified for other purposes after the war. Leave a Comment Phone: +47 33484650Directions: Harbor area off Tollbugata. You can't miss it.

by CliffClaven At the end of the main street, close to the ferry terminal, you can find the monument to Sandefjord's whaling heritage. It looks great in the photos, which tend to show the fountains bubbling and sparkling around the monument, but in winter they turn off the fountains. The monument looks rather forlorn in the frozen pool with its coating of dirty ice.

by CliffClaven It is probably wiser to leave your Save the Whales tee-shirt at home if you plan to visit Sandefjord's whaling museum, which claims to be the only one of its kind in Europe. It is fairly big – well, it has to be, since one of the star attractions is a full-size model of a blue whale. Fortunately, the models on sale in the museum shop are rather smaller. If an hour here doesn't make you want to reread Moby Dick, nothing will.

by CliffClaven No problem if you get lost in Sandefjord. With few highrise buildings in the town, it is easy to locate the soaring spire of the town church. It was built just over 100 years ago, and if you fail to see it, you should hear it, when its computer-controlled bells chime the hours.
