a MUST attraction, located near the harbor of Sandefjord.
The artist Knut Steen made the monument in the period 1955 - 1960.
The sculpture shows whalers in action and is situated in the roundabout close to the harbor in Sandefjord.

No problem if you get lost in Sandefjord. With few highrise buildings in the town, it is easy to locate the soaring spire of the town church. It was built just over 100 years ago, and if you fail to see it, you should hear it, when its computer-controlled bells chime the hours.

It is probably wiser to leave your Save the Whales tee-shirt at home if you plan to visit Sandefjord's whaling museum, which claims to be the only one of its kind in Europe. It is fairly big – well, it has to be, since one of the star attractions is a full-size model of a blue whale. Fortunately, the models on sale in the museum shop are rather smaller. If an hour here doesn't make you want to reread Moby Dick, nothing will.

At the end of the main street, close to the ferry terminal, you can find the monument to Sandefjord's whaling heritage. It looks great in the photos, which tend to show the fountains bubbling and sparkling around the monument, but in winter they turn off the fountains. The monument looks rather forlorn in the frozen pool with its coating of dirty ice.

The boat goes from Sandefjord to Stromstad, Sweeden. It takes around 3 hours. Enjoy the trip and all the food in the restaurant(knee supper), it's enough food for three hours
In Sweden you should take the advantage of all the cheap food there, before returning to Norway.

this chapel opened in the spring 2004 and it is probably the only floating chapel in Europe. Inside this Chapel, everyone is welcome to enjoy the silence and the light ceremony. There's also a memory room and a wall made to remember the norwegian whale catchers who were barried in South Georgia, the island in the south pacific.
It's possible to lend the chapel for arrangements. Marriages have also been done here. The chapel takes 30 persons.

you can visit this boat inside as a part of the whaling museum, but you'll have to pay som extra.
Southern Actor was built in 1950 for Sevilla Whaling.
During the second world war a lot of whaling ships were demolished, and made for other purposes. Southern Actor is an example of a typical whale boat who represents the period from 1945-til 1955.
the boat was brougt to Sandefjord in 1989. in May, June, August and September it's possible to rent the boat for a fjord trip.

The harbour of Sandefjord late afternoon in wintertime. There are lots of lucky people in Sandefjord with a view on the sea from their houses.
