Wladek & I deep in thought about research

Touring the historic village gave us a sense of what sort of life our grandfathers had in this rural area of southeast Poland. We were very lucky to have Wladek and Gosia to help us with the language, the culture, and the actual family research as we interacted with the priests at the various churches. Wladek found old maps and we visited streets where grandparents lived. All of it set in a background of peaceful fields, farms, and little villages. What a way to do geneology. It was fabulous. We'll all remember it forever...and we're all so thankful for the never ending graciousness and helpfullness of the Polish people and our sweet, sweet Polish friends.

    All Saints Church

We photographed the interior of this old church through a window. Here I imagined my grandparents getting married...my grandfather being baptised. Notice the anchor painted on the wall....the anchor is the symbol of Rhode Island. (our home) I can't imagine why the anchor would be there when they are definately not a coastal village. The benches must have made attending mass a fairly painful experience. 2001
Note in 2003: I have since learned that this is not the church of my g.parents. It was the church of the aristocracy. We discovered another church not far away...and at last ...the records of my g.parents and uncle. See later tips for more....
SO MANY CHURCHES....SO LITTLE TIME !!
The newer church is next door and pictured on another tip looking from the main square. On the 2009 trip, the priest from this church was very helpful to Rose who travelled with me...also in search of records for her grandfather in Kolbuszowa.

The recreation of an historic country village includes farm tools, animals, and everything needed for daily life. There is so much to be learned and a ton to enjoy.
