In Landek there is a very nice Main Square with the beautiful old neogothic Town Hall from 1872. Around the Main Square there are some shops and cafes. I was there in winter, but I think the better time for the visit is summer time.

Post- evangelical Church was consecrated in 1929, later destroyed as a result of the fire.
First Protestants- Lutherans came to Ladek in 1545,but they were forced by Catholics to leave Ziemia Klodzka in 1623.
This Evangelical Church was slowly restored there in the middle of the 18th century.
At present the church has been closed since 1946.

A baroque figure made of sandstone (pedestal- 100cm figure- 100cm) was put in the middle of the bridge. Saint John has his priestly dress on and holds his hands on the Cross. Around the Saint’s head there is a metal halo with five stars originally but there are only four at present.
On the pedestal we can see some interesting inscriptions engraved. The inscriptions say about the statue’s foundations and the date of its origin. On the front side of the pedestal we read some Latin words which mean: “the statue commemorates St. John’s and was really piously built by the inhabitants from their offerings”. Four distinguished capital letters are Roman numerals that make chronogram, the sum of these numbers gives 1709- the year in which the statue was made. The information under the inscription: XVII MAII gives the precise date: 16th May.
On the right side of the pedestal we have one more inscription: “the statue was restored owing to the voluntary offerings”. The chronogram shows that it happened in 1752.
On the back sides we can see initials I.P./ M.K.- M.K. probably stands for Michal Klahr- a sculptor from Ladek. There is one more thing. The figure resembles the other statue: the one situated on the Charles’s Bridge in Prague, which actually is the first baroque sculpture. There probably were many connections between artists from Prague and Ladek. We do not know exactly who sculpted St. John’s statue but regarding the artistic value of the sculpture he was a highly skilled professional. The statute probably looked better in the past, which can be proved by the remains of gilt ornament.

St. John’s Bridge - a gothic bridge, wich was built in 1565 and it’s extraordinarily durable, because egg whites were probably added to the mortar. After the flood of the 17th century, the bridge was renovated and the statue of St. John Nepomucen was put on the balustrade.
