The brick built castle in Lidzbark Warminski was built from 1350 to 1401 and it was used as a fortified residence for the Warmain Bishops until the late 18th century. The castle consists of four wings enclosing the inner courtyard, surrounded by a two-storey, arcaded wall walks, which are an only example in Poland of preserved Gothic castle walks. When the era of the bishops ended the castle fell into disrepair and was used for a number of purposes including a hospital, barracks, storage and an orphanage. Restoration took place in the 1920’s and within 10 years it had been restored to its former glory. The castle is open daily except Mondays.
