 | Poland Nightlife | Tips 1 - 10 of 36 | | Warsaw and Krakow have a lot of good bars where you can hear some decent jazz. This is not the case with Gdansk. However there is the Cotton Club. Although not exclusively a jazz club, I understand that it places jazz more times than not. The Cotton Club is a pretty large bar that takes up two floors in a courtyard sort of set up. Therefore you can see the stage from the second floor. The music was pretty good and I really like the atmosphere of the place. Even better the beer was not overly expensive as I had feared.

The Tygmont claims to be one of the top 100 Jazz Bar's. The is according to Downbeat's International Jazz Club Guide. I will not contradicte them as I do think that it is one of the top jazz clubs that I have visited in Europe. The talent that plays here is pretty good and the club is well worth dropping in on. There was no cover charge the night I visited but I do not think that this is normally the case.

It was 1974 and we were behind the Iron Curtain for the first time. There was a tension that we felt. Warsaw wasn't doing so well...people standing in line in the streets .. just to buy apples. However, included in our tour was a trip to Chopin's birthplace for a piano concert in that lovely little cottage. It was such a special evening...forever in my memory. We had dinner in a little restaurant nearby. Roving musicians entertained us and sang during our dinner. If you have an opportunity to hear a concert or visit Chopin's birth place....don't let the opportunity pass. You won't regret it. ~~~ Our recital was performed by Piotr Paleczny. Bravo!! In Kazimierz, the old Jewish quarter, you can have dinner while musicians play klezmer. The music they play is a little more jaunty and cheery than the melancholy sound I associate with klezmer, but it's still nice. The food is decent, not awesome, but decent, and the decor is -- well, the setting is an old house full of Jewish artifacts. It's hard not to wonder what life was like in the quarter before the war, and if you think about it it's disconcerting to wonder who all the artifacts may have belonged to, but on the whole it's enjoyable. Make a reservation.
Personally I dress for dinner but I don't think it's required. Leave a Comment Theme: ConcertAddress: ul. Szeroka 17Phone: 12 421 38 70Directions: Main square in KazimierzWebsite: www.alef.pl

in Poland you can definitely find the perfect environment for daily parties. You can find places for dancing from sunday to sunday. The schedule is this: monday to thursday, places are open from 20 to 3.00. The rest of the days are open till late. Poland parties are great, I didn t see people dancing so crazily as this people, believe me. People is cool, and friendly.

If in Warsaw go on Foksal street and check out the brewery and restaurants lining the street until late night. Only place in Warsaw with a concentration of places, so you can kinda go bar hopping.

On our trip around the Baltic Sea I didn't want to go to pubs or even to discos after a long ride. What I did was walking around to explore the region. Here you see an impression of Sorkwity. I sat on a fence to see the sunset. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Dekada is a pub/restaurant/club, often with life music, but the real nice thing about it is the ironic bow to the not quite so glorious past of socialist realism - The decoration is strictly retro, paying tribute to the 50s. however, Dekada splits into the world of west and east. Which means, one part of the pub is decorated in an americanized style - neon signs, a giant Campbell tomatoe-spup tin, juke boxes and rock ´n´roll, whereas the other part relives the atmosphere of a Polish bar in the 50s, there are even projections of old propaganda films, and several tables have been built in an almost antique tramway. If you want to see how Poland once looked, you should go there.
