This shrine was on the road to Pajezsno...which is a little town just north of Czestochowa. This was one of the more elaborate shrines I photographed. The image of the woman with her bicycle and the shrine and the sky are so "everyday Poland" to me. One day I'd like to photograph all the shrines around the roadways in Poland and create a little photograph book. I think they are the most wonderful primitive art. There are mini shrines all along the roadways in the country. Keep your eye open for them. We saw many. Each one is different...a testament to the devout people who created them. They use these shrines for short visits to pray when they cannot take the time to reach the nearest church. I've never seen such spiritual people anywhere. Their religion has been there throughout their darkest hours for centuries. Leave a Comment

by tanguito Ok listen very good. If you are around Krakow, you can t loose your chance to visit Auschwtiz museum. Auschwitz is as you should know the camp concentration where nazis killed thousands of people during the 2nd WW. It s a terrific remember of the history, but it s interesting to spend one evening and take a look. First, for going to Auschwitz you must take a train in Krakow (about 50minutes), and when you arrive to the city you must take a bus, in the train station you have the instructions on how to get to Auschwithz, don t worry. The name Auschwitz was given by germans, but the city in Poland where Auschwitz is placed it s Oswiecim. You have good frequences for going there every day. If you arrive in the morning (around 11) you can watch a movie of the 2WW and the story of the camp. Otherwise you can go in for free and see the installations. Nazi's headquarters and the places where all the innocent people lived and died: chamber gas, death walls where the prisioners were executed, crematories. It s a sad remember, showing the monstruosity of the human past. Keep silence while being there in respect for the people who died in the most terrible ways. Pray for the people who died and the ones who survived, and for this never happens again in the future. In the picture behind me there s the ironic inscription: 'arbeit macht freit' which means 'the works makes you free', as they tried to make the prisioners to believe. (please, visit my travelogue of Auschwitz for more pics inside the camp and more info). Leave a Comment

ZAMEK KSIAZAT POMORSKICH or Pomerania Duke Castle is a very vibrant place. If you are looking for some good music that's a place to go. The castle is a host to several music festivals. Here they are: International Choral Festival, Sundays Noon Concerts, Chamber Music Evenings at the Candles, and the ones I'm familiar with are called Promenade Concerts in the Summer. Some famous artists like Jose Careras, Michal Urbaniak, Goran Bregovic and Chuck Mangione performed at this castle. Leave a Comment

by Wiktoria Pieniny Mountains and Dunajec River Gorge raft trip. I would say early fall is the best time to take a raft trip. All the trees and bushes turn many different shades of gold, red, burgundy and brown. Leave a Comment

by Wiktoria Pieniny Mountains architecture. Like in many mountainous areas the roofs are steep so the snow doesn't accumulate on top of them. Also, the ground floor is usually supported with the stones. The stones come straight from the Dunajec river (a really abundant resource, e.g. white marble). Leave a Comment
