Concentration camp Gross-Rosen, Rogoznica

by martin_nl

Some 50 km. southwest of Wroclaw you will find the contentration camp of Gross-Rosen or Rogoznica in polish. It was established by an SS owned company to exploit the nearby marble and granite quarries. The first prisoners arrived in August 1940. Initially it was a subcamp of Sachsenhausen, but in May 1941 the Gross-Rosen became an independent camp. The camp and its subcamps grew from 1,500 inmates at the end of 1941 to about 80,000 at the time the camp was evacuated in January, 1945. It is estimated that at least 125,000 inmates passed through Gross-Rosen and its subcamps. On the picture you see the entrance to the camp.

Don't lost the country side...

by diamond7

The Poland is really marvellous just in its unknown towns and villages. Discovering the county side you shall enjoy a lot more than staying only in the tourist points as Poland is very rich in costums, small events and beautiful nature exactly in unknown towns a little all over the country. More yet, you shall meet the very friendly hospitality of the polish people, and can enjoy local bars, small guesthouses and typical markets, which are not made for the tourist people.

The Stare Miasto of Lublin

by Paul2001

Lublin and it's fine old town does not seem to receive many foriegn travelers. In fact I was the only one I knew. This is a shame because I actually found that the Stare Miasto (old town of Lublin) to be rather alluring. At least it is worth diverting yourself to if you are traveling through this part of Poland. The Stare Miasto has several old gates of interest, a very good castle museum, and several mostly Renaissance designed churches. The problem with Lublin is the state of condition of several buildings in the Stare Miasto. Unlike much of the rest of Poland's fine old towns, Lublin did not actually suffer severe damage during the Second World War. However the Stare Miasto was very much neglected by the Communists for the 45 years after the war. Many buildings in Lublin are being torn down and rebuilt as best they can be so that they appear authentic. Finally I found overall the town...

The Warsaw Jewish Cemetery and Ghetto Memorials. Nothing survives but monuments. This area is a sprawl of communist cement apartment buildings, but if you walk in and around them you will find stones and an occasional courtyard that represents the ghetto days. You can get a feel for what it must have been like. The synagogue offers a map of anything left to see here. Also to see the natural beauty visit the Tatra Mountain areas in the south WOW. All sorts of outdoor activities and nature.

Ok listen very good.If you are around Krakow, you can t loose your chance to visit Auschwtiz museum. Auschwitz is as you should know the camp concentration where nazis killed thousands of people during the 2nd WW. It s a terrific remember of the history, but it s interesting to spend one evening and take a look. First, for going to Auschwitz you must take a train in Krakow (about 50minutes), and when you arrive to the city you must take a bus, in the train station you have the instructions on how to get to Auschwithz, don t worry. The name Auschwitz was given by germans, but the city in Poland where Auschwitz is placed it s Oswiecim. You have good frequences for going there every day. If you arrive in the morning (around 11) you can watch a movie of the 2WW and the story of the camp. Otherwise you can go in for free and see the installations. Nazi's headquarters and the places where all...
