The Monciak is a common nickname for the main pedestrian area in central Sopot, a street called Bohaterow Monte Cassino (Heroes of M.C. - to commemorate the Polish soldiers who fought in the victorious battle of Monte Cassino, Italy during WWII). You reach it within a few minutes from the train station and it runs straight towards the Molo pier.
It's the place to go shopping, pick one of the restaurants or cafes, listen to street musicians, sit down and watch people go by. It's a vibrant place at night too!

Sopot is famous for its sandy beaches, and they can be very crowded. You get a good view of the beach from the pier on both its sides. It was a hot and humid day when Janet and I were there, and a little foggy when we got to the pier (it happens in the Gdansk Bay). The sea was very calm. A lot of people were on the beach but we only wet our feet, hanged about for a little while and went for a drink. To tell you the truth, I prefer the beaches in the open sea, not the ones in the Bay of Gdansk :-)

Sopot is the place to party, wine and dine, and dance the night away. Interesting what is this beautiful church doing in the middle of sin city.
In the beginning of the 20th century, the Kaiser Wilhelm II founded the building of this church, after having approved the design himself. When the building was completed in 1901, his wife, the empress Augusta Victoria, attended the consecration ceremony in person. Since then, sailors and fishermen have been able to see the proud tower as they sail through the Bay of Gdansk

The Balneology - Bathing Building together with the rheumatology hospital was built according to the design fo Paul Puchmuller in 1903-04. The balneaotherapy building required its own boiler room and chimney; the architect came with good idea to build around the tall chimney light house and sightseeing tower. The are a lot of sculptures and stained-glass windows in the building. Over the main porch you can see sculpture of siren with Tryton. Tryton (Tryton Roman name Triton Greek name) comes from Greek & Roman Mythology and he is God of the sea and son of Poseidon. The entrance is also decorated with arms of Sopot. To commemorate the founder of the resort town Jean Haffner, a commemorating plate was attached to the wall of the building.

The wooden Pier It is the longest construction made of wood in Europe. It stretches up to 516 meters into the sea and it is 10 meter wide with many decks on its side. Built as we see it today in 1928.
The entire area is a place of commerce, events and exhibitions during summer. Recently there was a New Year parties organized on the pier premises. There are lower and upper decks on the pier, lower decks are used by passenger ships and many yachts.
The pier is also the favorite place for romantic walks. This is the place where yachts and ships of "white fleet" moor. At the end of the pier, there is a viewpoint from which one may watch the Grand Hotel, panorama of Sopot.
