River Narew joins Wisla, a view from the Modlin fortress. The fortress, one of the largest in Europe, initially built by Napoleon, dates from the beginning of 19th century. The citadel there is supposed to be the longest building in Europe, almost 2.5 kilometre long.
Don't leave your car unattended at the parking lot next to the old military cemetery. Bits of broken glass on the ground are obvious sign that someone tried to break into cars here before. We've asked a local guide and unfortunately he confirmed it. This is not a good place to leave your car. Better park it somewhere in a less deserted area towards the citadel.
This water tank tower is within the citadel yard. This is currently a restricted access military area. Or rather a wasteland...
Still you can get inside past the guards with a little effort.
Then, once you're in the inner yard, you can even get inside this old building and many others. It's sad to see how the buildings deteriorate there.
