This memorial is located in the forest where the massacre 700 Jews (possibly some of my family who were never heard from again) occurred. It is very difficult to find. According to a retired teacher, it is tended by the local school children. When I visited there were many memorial candles on it. I left my own which I brought from Israel(the little blue one in front). The driver who brought us suggested I light it but I could not leave a burning candle in the middle of the woods. It was a cold, rainy day in May causing fog and raindrops on the camera lens.

I actually had an appointment to meet with a city administratrator regarding historical archives but the trip from Warsaw took longer than expected. Our driver had never been to Stawiski and had trouble finding it. In addition the roads were narrow and there was only one lane in either direction. If you got stuck behind a tractor or heavily burdened truck you could go slow for a long time.
