The church is almost totally covered with paintings high and low, giving a very special impression, especially in combination with the dim light inside.

The Church is called the Church of Peace following the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. It is reputed to have no nails in its construction and has 28 doors. After the large organ proved to be unreliable a smaller one was added over the altar. The church can hold 7,500 people, with 3,500 seated and 4,000 standing, however todays numbers are much smaller. The church is open for visitors 9am-1pm & 3-5pm Mon-Sat, and 3-5pm on Sun. Whilst visiting I shot a short video Video of the Church of Peace

The appearance of the church was modified in the 18th century, as the protestant community increased in size and influence after the area came under Prussian rule. A domed Vestibule to the west used what had previously been banned materials. A baptistery was added to the east, porches and chapels to the long sides.
The church in Jawor is under the invocation of the Holy Ghost, the Swidnica's one under the invocation of the Holy Trinity.

The building permits for the churches in Swidnica, Jawor, and a third church in Glogow, were issued on 13th August 1652, a few years after the end of the Thirty Years’ War. The church in Glogow unfortunately burnt down in 1758. Although permission to construct a building was subject to stringent conditions, the building sites were restricted to locations outside the cities and churches could only be built from wood, straw and clay, no stone or brick was allowed. A church spire and bells were forbidden, and the construction period was limited to only one year. Designed by an engineer, Albrecht von Sabisch, the church was cleverly laid out in such a way that an enormous congregation could be packed into a relatively small space. This is why the Church of Peace is Swidnica, with capacity for up to 7,000 people and has four wooden galleries arranged one above the other. Although the church in Swidnica is the smaller of the two, it is considered by some to be the greatest timber framed church ever built.
