Gdansk If Cracow seems to...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Gdansk
If Cracow seems to breath the atmosphere of the Habsburgian monarchy, the architecture of the old town in Gdansk clearly depicts the connection to the trading route of the Hansa-cities along the Baltic Sea. Some of the old warehouses at the Mottlawa river have been restored, everywhere along the narrow cobblestoned roads amber is being sold - once the 'gold from the sea'

    Go see Gdansk
  • Tip Rating:
  • Gdansk is, next to Cracow, one of the most beautiful cities in Poland, though much different. In the old town´s architecture you can see a lot of influence from Flemish, German, Scandinavian and even Italian tradition - a heritage from the centuries, when Gdansk was one of the cities of the Hansa, cooperating in international trade across the Baltic see. The old town is relatively small, you can stroll around and enjoy the unique atmosphere, take a walk along the promenade of the river Motlawa or walk to the famous Stockyard (no longer named after Lenin), the cradle of 'Solidarity', the trade union that changed history in Poland and beyond

  • Malbork - castle of the Teutonic knights
The castle of the Teutonic knights used to be the bastion of the Order state in the Middle Ages, when the competition for power and control over the cities was a constant source of conflict and war between the Polish crown and the Teutonic Order. Only the order´s defeat at Grunwald in 14 th century brought an end to the conflict. The Castle, also known as Marienburg, is nowadays a museum, but they also offer 'medieval banquets'.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Wroclaw is another of the cities that should not be omitted while being in Poland. A lot of restoration has been done in recent years, and now the old town and the marketplace are a pleasant sight, with many restaurants, cafes and pubs all over the place.
Wroclaw is the capital of Lower Silesia and you will find its architecture quite different from cities like Warsaw and Cracow. In the course of the 1000 years of the city´s history Poles, Czechs and Austrians have lived here and it was only in 1945 that German Breslau became Polish Wroclaw again. together with German architectur heritage you can therefore discover cultural treasures from the former Polish Lwow, now Ukrainian Lviv, brought along with the Polish population who had to leave their home to settle in Silesia

    Lazienki Park in Warsaw
  • Tip Rating:
  • a nice place for a stroll when you are tired with sightseeing. Most beautiful on Sundays from May till October - at 12.00 and 16.00 o´clock there are Chopin piano concerts free of charge under the huge Chopin monument right at the park´s entrance. If you like the romantic music of Chopin, this is the place to go - Warsovians and tourists sit a the park benches or on the lawn among trees and roses and listen to the music. Here you get a feeling of the Polish soul!

  • Directions: Al. Ujazdowskie - you can take one of the buses to Plac Na Rozdrozu, e.g. 525, 520, 151, 138, 165. If you stay at the City centre, you travel best with bus number 180, the 'tourist line'

    Chojnik, the castle in...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Chojnik, the castle in Sobieszów by Jelenia Góra. The legend is that once upon a time the beautifull but cruel princess Kunegunda lived there. She decided that she will wed only this brave knight which will be able to ride on a horsback on the top of the high and narrow tower.
There were a lot of wonderful knights who tried to do it, but they fell down and died. Finally there appeared one lonely rider in magnificent armor and victoriously rode on the pick of tower. Kunegunda was delighted, because she fell in love with this brave man at first sight. But the knight told her that she couldn’t live with someone so cruel to let so many people die, just for a caprice. And he has gone. Kunegunda was so deppressed that she flung herself down of the tower…

  • Tip Rating:
  • The old town square in Warsaw was completely destroyed in WW II, but rebuilt using Canneletto's paintings as a map. You would never know it. Walk the Royal Mile to see the Palaces and gardens. The church containing Chopin's heart, Copernicus's school and modern shopping malls make it all so exciting. The Warsaw Jewish Cemetery is 4 hectors and dates back 400 years. The People are very friendly and a bit of German helps get you around.
