Rafting Dunajec River gorge

by matcrazy1

Rafting along river Dunajec gorge among ranges of Pieniny Mountains is rally great adventure. The river is relatively quiet even when the level of water in the river is high. But the views are amazing..The Pieniny Mountains are locate about about 80 km (50 mi) south of Krakow. You can see Summit of the Trzy Korony (Three Crowns) and River Dunajec on the picture - there is Slovakia on the right side of the river. .

There is no toilet onboard

by matcrazy1

Don't drink beer before entering a raft in Dunajes River, there is no toilet onboard :-).Although if you ask the captain (:-), he will stop a raft for a moment for you, ask him to stop on the right side of the river - you will visit Slovakia (sorry the pictures from my shortest visit to Slovakia can't be published :-).BTW Slovakia is much more worth of your visit then only to pis(s) on Slovakian earth :-)))).

Mazury - nice place to sail.

by Rawicz

Lake Sniardwy - the biggest one in Poland - lies 200 km north of Warsaw in the middle of Mazury National Park: the famous recreation area full of lakes, pine woods, fish and mushrooms, where rare birds and animals can be seen (for example, the tarpans - wild horses that live only in Poland).

by dreamworld

To meet people and to look at 'everyday's life' in central Warsaw, just have a sit somewhere at the Castle Place at the entrance of the Old Town. There's a lot to observe. If you have enough time, go away from downtwon and visit the Belvedere castle. Outisde Warsaw, approximately 15km south, there's also another great castle which I can't remember the name (very famous). The second PICTURE taken under a great blue sky...is showing you the Royal Castle.

TRESNA - big dam and a lake , near the mountains. There is health and watersports resort. On the opposite side - mountain 'Zar' (eng. Embers), there is gliding and hang gliding resort.Rather to your surprise - there's unusual phenomenon of the opposite gravity !( on the mountain ofcourse)

Krakow

by a.g.roberts

In contrast to Warsaw, Krakow was left completly untouched in WW II and so has retained it's medieval town square. The center of the city is gorgeous and many a day can be whiled away wandering about the twisty streets and enjoying the cafes lining the old town square.

The Tatras Mountains

by a.g.roberts

Spectacular scenery awaits in the Tatras Mountains! Though a small range, the Tatras are absolutely beautiful. The colours are incredible, they are certainly not just grey rock. The park, which has been maintained as a cooperative effort between Poland and Slovakia, offers tons of well maintained hiking trails. The town of Zakopane (a couple of hours south of Krakow) is probably the easiest homebase as you can walk right from the town to the park gate and onto the trails.

Auschwitz/Birkenau

by a.g.roberts

Though it is rather a sombre activity, a visit to Auschwitz/Birkenau is really something no one should miss while in Poland. They are located only about an hour's bus ride from Krakow. Auschwitz has been turned into a museum with some especially chilling displays of personal articles taken from prisoners as well as a lot of the history of Poland's role in the War. Birkenau has been left as a monument and has been left as it was when the Nazis abandonned it at the end of the war.

The Old Town in Warsaw

by a.g.roberts

The old part of Warsaw was systematically destroyed by the Nazi's in 1944 in retaliation for the Polish uprising which occurred near the end of the war. Though eventually defeated, the Polish resistence managed to keep the German army at bay for several months. Pictures of the old town in 1945 will show that it was reduced to rubble and nothing over about ten feet high was left standing. Incredibley, the whole old part of Warsaw was reconstructed and today you'd be hard pressed to tell the buildings weren't the originals. Winding your way through the narrow streets and alleyways and enjoying cups of coffee in the numerous cafes is a great way to spend an afternoon.
