Travel the country - there's something for everyone in Poland - from Gdansk & the Baltic coast in the north west to the Tatra mountains in the south - from the lakes and forests of Masuria in the north east to beautiful Krakow in the south.In the cities, walk around the back streets as well, you'll see some beautiful architecture. I took the attached photo early evening in Gdansk.
This region of Poland had a great importance in 14th, 15th centuries. The deep valleys and lonely, calcareous rocks gave an opportunity to build the fortresses. Lots of remains still exist. These are located along 'The Eagle's Nests Trail' (Szlak Orlich Gniazd). Jura Upland is also a center of free climbing. Since early spring till late autumn the rocks are occupied by climbers.
Visit BIALOWIEZA NATIONAL PARK It's a piece of wonderful primaeval forest. You can hear here an echo of the long past centuries. Lovely place for long walks. In Bialowieza forest live the biggest mammal in Europe - European bison. Since 1979 Bialowieza forest is a World Heritage site.
Visit Kazimierz Dolny. Our little treasure.It's unique place because of its architecture; baroque and renaissaince houses, churches and lovely granaries built in 16th century, ruins of a medieval castle, picturesque main square...And wonderful landscape all around.
An alpine character make Tatra Mountains a popular holiday destination. The National Park has a lot of the very well marked trails. Zakopane, the biggest city (30 000 inhabitants) and the smaller ones are well prepared for all kind of activities.
Still wild, quiet, untouched. It's a heaven for all of you, who like bird-watching (especially early spring and autumn). You see here the black grouses, herons, cranes, eagles...And it's one of the places in Poland where the mooses live.
This region of Poland is famous for it's lovely lakes. Since May till September you'll see hundrets of boats every lake possible. But not only sailing and beautiful landscape make Mazury so interesting. For centuries this land was ruled by Teutonic Knights. Lots of remains - churches and castles are worth a visit.
Warsaw was a real surprise.I found a modern city with a old town tucked away to the side.It was not overloaded with tourists as Krakow can be.I know it must be strange to put a entire city down under 'must see' but make time to come here.Photo of monument to 1944 Warsaw Rising.
What a delightful little town. Predominantly baroque in style, set atop a hill and overlooking the river and valley below (unfortunately Poland does not make the most of its river locations and towns tend to turn their back on such natural settings). But there survives some of the Medieval past: a walk through the old gate into the cobbled streets of the old town, wondering through the various hues of baroque town and merchant houses, a visit to the vaulted cellars and secret passages under the town itself, coffee and cake in the old square - delightful.
Spectacular Medieval ruined castle. Extensive ruins sitting atop low-lying hill with lovely views all around. Set amidst some lovely countryside, combine the castle with a trip to nearby (20kms) town of Sandomierz or simply follow some of the paths through the fields and along the river.
