Furnicular from Zakopane to Gubalowka Hill

by hopang

The beautiful Gubalowka Hill is a very popular tourist destination and attraction whenever you visit the winter ski resort of Zakopane. Lots of souvenir and gift shops as well as food stalls are located on top of the hill. Even though it is easy to walk up Gubalowka Hill especially during the hot summer months, most visitors would prefer to take furnicular railway up Gubalowka Hill simply because it may be a little bit slippery during the winter months and to save precious time which can be used for other important sight-seeing as well as other activities. The furnicular railway takes just five minutes of your time to reach the top of the hill and is operated from the northwest end of Krupowki Street in Zakopane. To save some foreign exchange you are recommended to purchase a return ticket which costs only 17 zl. A one way ticket up the hill alone costs 12 zl. Alternatively you can take...

Walking tour in Krakow

by hopang

Most of the famous tourist attractions in Krakow are located in the Old Town of Krakow and they are all within walking distance of each other. So the best way to visit and explore these attractions is by walking. You do not have to purchase any transportation pass to visit these attractions. Another option to visit these attractions is probably by horse-carriages. There are so many of these horse-caariages on the roads of Krakow even during the winter months. Please note that you need to take day trips to Krakow's other popular tourist attractions such as the Wieliczka Salt Mine and the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Alternatively you may join group walking tours, some of them are free. You may start your own walking tour from the north of Krakow at the Barbican (as depicted on our first photograph) which is just a stone's throw from Krakow Glowny, Krakow's main railway station....

By commuter train from Krakow to Wieliczka

by hopang

Wieliczka Salt Mine, a must-see tourist attraction, is located just 10 kilometers southeast of central Krakow. In our opinion the best and safest alternative to travel to Wieliczka Salt Mine in Wieliczka from the central of Krakow is by commuter trains from Krakow Glowny to Wieliczka Rynek. You will not miss Wieliczka Salt Mine when you travel by commuter trains since Wieliczka Rynek is the last stop on this route. However if you travel by a mini bus or a municipal bus, you may miss the Salt Mine if and when the bus driver forgets to let you know which bus stop to alight when the bus arrives at the Salt Mine. Many of the local bus drivers do not understand English. You may have to remind the bus driver all the time which can be very irritating to the bus driver and to other passengers! Another thing that we were worried about when travelling by mini buses in Krakow. Drving on the roads...

Regional bus from Krakow to Zakopane

by hopang

Take a day trip to the lovely ski resort of Zakopane if you visit Krakow during the winter months. Zakopane is situated just 100 kilometers south of Krakow. Zakopane is certainly beautiful in winter. The regional bus station Regionalny Dworzec Autobusowy or RDA as it is called, is located beside the main railway station Krakow Glowny. You may book your bus tickets in advance from the ticket counters at the bus station or you may also buy your bus tickets from the bus driver if want to leave Krakow for Zakopane immediately. We suggest you take an early morning bus after your breakfast in your hotel so that you can have an almost entire day in Zakopane. Buses leave quite regularly from Krakow, approximately every 20 minutes during the peak hours. We travelled by 8.55 a.m. bus and arrived at Zakopane at 11.00 a.m. The regional bus departs Regionalny Dworzec Autobusowy and passes through...

Hitchhiking in Poland

by eMGeographer

I've never had any problems with hitch-hiking in Poland. No matter if I traveled in 2 or 3. Of course it is much easier to travel when you are two girls than two guys, however mixed team is a bit safer (for girls). You stop a car simply shaking hand with the index finger pointed at the road or stick your thumb upward (picture above). Good idea is to write your destination on a sheet of paper, but it's not necessary. The most importatant thing is to choose a good spot for hitchhiking. If you feel that something is going wrong, ask locals whether you are standing in a proper place - maybe 500 m farther is a popular places for catching cars? Find out more on my blog.

In Buses with Luggage.

by henrykkanada

On most urban buses, there are no seats opposite the middle and rear doors. Stand against the window in this area. This protects both your pockets and your luggage. Also easier to get off in a crowded bus. Also applicable to some subway/metro cars.

Getting about in major Polish cities

by evaanna

This is just to give you a link to a most useful site that will help you get around the major Polish cities. I learnt about it from an American lady we met on a train to Gdansk only yesterday and owe her thanks for giving it to me. The site tells you in great detail how to get to any place within the city you might wish to visit by public transport or just walking. Our travel companion had found it very helpful, especially that there was also an English version of this marvellous guide. I hope you find it useful too. Here is the link:jakdojade.pl

Discovering Poland by train

by filipdebont

Via the website of the Polish train company (PKP), it was very easy to make a planning. You can easily find al the connections and the time schedules.Mostly I used IC trains, because these trains do not stop so often, so travelling time is shorter.Via the website of the Polish Intercity company: www.intercity.com.pl/en/main, you should be able to make a reservation. But unfortunately it did not work from abroad. But like in my case a friendly Polish girl (thank you Anna) made these reservations for me, and then did send me the reservation forms. And the system works. Once you have your reservation, you have a wagon number and a seat number, you just have to present this reservation form at the conductor and pay the money to him.So no problems standing in line to get a ticket, no language problems at the ticket office.I
