Car Insurance

by bombel

You must specify exactly what you want. For example cost of the insurance depends of place you live in Poland (the most expensive in Warsaw where are accidents and car theft the less in small villages). It depends of the age (car age and driver age) depends of the car value, depends od the kind of the car, and engine. And do you want only OC (it works if you hit somebody) or also AC (it works if your car is stolen, destroyed etc). What do you mean "transfer"? If somebody buys car from you must get new documents. And it cost about 200 PLN. One also need to pay tax - 2% of car value.

Cheep travel

by colintaylor

As with most places the bus is the cheepest method of travel. Petrol prices are much the same as the rest of europe. The roads if you drive, are wide, really wide compared to scotland. You could practically drive a jumbo jet down them. But they are full of pot holes, honest to god, if you have a sun roof then open it, your head will thank you.The natives just park there cars on the pavement, so when in rome.....Always lock your car and hide everything, there are a lot of thieving bastards there. If you get caught with a minor motoring offence the police are willing to forget the paperwork...for a price. I dont mind this, long live free enterprise, and they have to suppliment theyre low wages somehow.

TRAIN

by Jawnuta

Train is a great way to travel through Poland. You can get a first class ticket and travel in comfort. First class is very affordable for westerners and it usually is half empty since most of Poles can't quite afford it yet.My American hubby loves traveling on polish trains especially when he found out you can get a beer on the train..On my pictures you can see a ticket from Szczecin to Krakow. It is an overnight train with sleeping compartments. You leave Szczecin around midnight and at 9 am you are in Krakow eating delicious breakfast. The ticket cost 187 zlotych per person one way.

Taxi cab - off the record

by X-Philly

If you need to get to the airport (lotnisko) from the central train station in Warsaw go to the line of cabs outside. When you get in, the driver may ask you if you're ok to go without the meter (bez licznika), say ok but find out how much it's going to be. Make sure you find out ahead of time what the typical fare to the airport is. You might save a couple of dollars. You won't get a receipt, though.

Choo Choo

by smirnofforiginal

It is really easy and not too costly to get around on the train. They run frequently, are user friendly and, being like the old UK trains, if you book (for the longer journies) early enough you can secure yourself a compartment... particularly handy if travelling with little people!NB - Larger items such as bikes and buggies - well, double buggies, at least - require their own tickets. Check with the ticket office before you board. We didn't realise, didn't have a ticket for the double buggy - but it wasn't a problem; we were allowed to pay the inspector on the train... but they may not all be such friendly, understanding ticket officers!

Tourist ticket on trains - Excellant value

by shaolinmonk

There is a "Touristyczna" ticket available in the regional routes of Poland. The deal is you buy a ticket for 60zl (~20US$) which allows you to travel unrestricted from 6pm on the last working day (Friday) till 6am of the next working day (Monday) morning 6am. It becomes even better if its a long weekend. This does not allow you to travel in the elite intercity or euro city trains, but to travel anywhere within poland, its an excellant choice in the normal trains. Its an great option for expats, but at the same time tourists can use it as well if you happen to be in the time.

Get a bus 175 from airport

by Agnessa

City bus 175 runs from Frideric Chopin Airport to the city center. Buy ticket at kiosk at the airport. Fare is about 1USD. Bus 175 will take you also to Central Railway Station - called Warszawa Centralna where you can catch trains to other cities in Poland.

Chopin Turns in His Grave

by boltonian

The main terminal is fine. Terminal B, just great. But Etudia terminal is home to the scum, Easyjet, Wizzair etc etc.It is a zoo, a free for all. There are no lines, ques or anything else. It took us almost 2 hours to get checked in and through security. Nobody wants to que, it is a farce. Drunken tourists smash beer bottles on the floor, while babies scream. This is by far the worst airport I have ever seen. No shop, no duty free, just a cattle market affair to get home.Pay the extra few quid and fly with BA from the real terminal.

How to travel around Poland?

by wroclawiak

If you plan travelling around Poland you it is reasonable to travel by train. Travelling by train in Poland is not so expansive like in other European countries. The bus connections between distant large cities are possible but there are not so convenient and the buses are slowly because of the roads. The roads are narrow and the Polish motorway network is poor. The bus is a good mean of transport for short distances. The buses are more expansive than trains.Hitchhiking is possible but not so common nowadays.

By plane around Poland.

by wroclawiak

There are only two airlines operating domestic flights. 1. LOT - the Polish national airline connects Warsaw with all other Polish airports. But if you want to go f. e. from Rzeszów to Wrocław or Szczecin you have to change in Warsaw. The fees are very high. If you book in advance you can get a one way ticket for about 28 Euros. This is the lowest price which LOT can offer for domestic flights. But if you want to go from Cracow to Gdańsk you have to buy the second ticket from Warsaw to Gdańsk. If you are lucky you can buy a ticket for about 56 Euro one way via Warsaw. It's a good deal because the normal price for this flight would be about min. 75 Euro. It's reasonable to buy return tickets but if you want to travel around the country is not the case. The domestic flights operated by LOT are very often unpunctual. The service on board is ok. Coffee, tea, juice or water and...
