AIRPORTS IN POLAND

by wroclawiak

Be prepared. It's sad but true. The airports in Poland are small, crowded and bad connected with city centers. The service is poor and the people working at the airports try to be nice but they are not. The Polish national airline LOT is one of the most expensive airlines in the region and maybe in the world. The people say that the service on board is ok. If you take a taxi from the airport you will be certainly overcharged.the Polish airports:Warsaw http://www.lotnisko-chopina.pl/?lang=enBydgoszcz http://www.plb.pl/Cracow http://www.lotnisko-balice.pl/strona_en.htmlGdańsk http://www.airport.gdansk.pl/service/en/strgl.phpKatowice http://www.gtl.com.pl/Łódź http://www.airport.lodz.pl/index.php?lang=en_ENPoznań http://www.airport-poznan.com.pl/en/Rzeszów http://www.lotnisko-rzeszow.pl/?lang=enSzczecin http://www.airport.com.pl/en/index.htmWrocław...

By ferry to Krynica Morska

by zaffaran

If you go from Gdansk to concentration camp Stutthof or to Krynica Morska, I'd recommend you going there by ferry, not along the road No E77 . To do so, after leaving Gdansk for Warsaw, in Przejazdowo turn left into road No 501 to Sobieszewo and Swibno (where the ferry actually is) . It costs 10 zloty for a car,3 for a bike and 40 for a coach but allows to shorten your way to Krynica and avoid traffic. What is more , on your way you'll see two interesting bridges (bascule and swinging) and also the area is picturesque. The ferry operates in summer(07-10) , but this year (2007) it's planned from 01 March to 30 Nov.), hours 5.20 am to 10 pm every 30 mins but if the traffic is big- continuously.

You Can't beat public transport

by Ekaterinburg

We were very impressed by the standards of public transport in Poland. Coming from a country where the bus service is pathetic and schedules are 'flexible' ( to use a polite term), it was a pleasure to hop on and off buses which came when they were supposed to and weren't too crowded. From Krokowa, for instance, there were three bus routes: to Debki, to Wejherowo and to Hel. We tried all of these routes and apart from the odd difficulty with reading the timetables, encountered no problems. From Wejherowo to Gdansk on the train took about 40 minutes and the intercity express trains are fast and regular. By our standards, prices, especially on the buses, were unbelievably low and trundling along on a local bus is a really relaxing way to see the countryside.

Krackow Airport

by travelswithsteve

From arriving at the airport going into Krackow, take the 192 service. They run about 3 per hour and it takes about 30 minutes.Get off at Teatr Bagatela or Glowny (the main station) if your heading for the Old Town.

Perhaps by train?

by evaanna

Before you hire a car to travel around Poland, you should know a few things. The roads in Poland are rather narrow and there is a lot of traffic, there are hardly any motorways. You will often have to drive for hours behind a convoy of lorries breathing in their fumes, without any chance to overtake. So, while a car would be handy if you plan to visit smaller, otherwise inaccessible places, you would do better to take a train if you want to see the larger cities, like Warsaw, Cracow, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Poznan, Lodz etc. The Inter-City trains are fast and reliable and of course if you get a couchette you have a whole day before you for sightseeing. Another option is to take a plane but the airports are not always close to the city centres, unlike the central railway stations where the trains arrive.Hiring a car, you will also be in for parking problems in the big cities: you may have to...

Train Travel in Poland

by darren_st

Travel by train is a great way to see Poland but going into the station for the first time can be daunting. When you enter the station, you will see two large signs with Przyjazdy and Odjazdy written on them. In the larger stations the signs are of the electronic type but in smaller stations they might be large posters. The first sign Przyjazdy means Arrivals and the second sign says Odjazdy means Departures. The easiest way to book a train if you don't speak Polish is to check what time your train leaves. The trains are listed by time of departure on the Odjazdy poster or sign, so you'll need to look for a while until you see one that stops at your destination station. Make a note of the time of departure and then go to the counter. The female counter staff that work behind the counters in Polish railway stations never smile. This is just a fact of life, don't let it put you off buying...

By bus to Poland

by Ben-UK

In the past I've often travelled to Poland by bus from the UK - prices approx. 80 Pounds one way or 110 Pounds return. UK companies you can use are :-Acorn International UK tel: 0117-944-4544 Eurolines UK tel: 0990-143219Europa Express -- you can get tickets via the following travel agents :-Polonez Travel UK tel: 0208-767-5551 -or - Gosia Travel UK tel: 0207-581-5154 Depending on your destination, it takes about a day and a half, but it's hassle-free, you meet people on the bus, you get to see some of the countryside and you go right to the centre of the city - if you have the time, it's fine.

Taxi to the Station

by filipdebont

So after a quiet flight, I arrived in Warsaw airport. The luggage handling and the passport control went very quickly. So now I needed to find a taxi to bring me to the central railway station of Warsaw (Warszawa Centralna).Outside the airport building there was a row of waiting taxis.Maybe because it was the 1st of May (festivity of Labour), the road were very empty, and so in less then 15 minutes I was standing in front of the railway building. The taxi was equipped with a meter (this meter started at 6 zl.), and it was 2 zl. per kilometre.Upon arrival the meter showed 33zl. Of course when you arrive for the first time in a country you do not have small money. So I gave the driver 40 zl. And He told me that he had no small money to return. Like this I paid 7 zl. to much, that is almost 2 euro.A week later, for the return trip, I paid only 25 zl. So probably the driver took a longer road,...
