Flying LOT

by filipdebont

So now that my "AirPolonia" problem was solved, I could start a search for a new flight.Via the travel search engine: www.comparflight.com, I found a decent flight towards Poland. So I booked a LOT flight at www.travelprice.com, they gave the best flight schedule / price combination. So I booked a morning flight from Brussels towards Warsaw (1st of May), and an evening return flight from Warsaw to Brussels (9th of May). Both flights were very quiet and the flight time was about 1h50, on board there was a good service with drinks and sandwiches (even with smoked salmon).By the way LOT is also a member of the Star Alliance group, so I even collected some flight miles on my Thai Royal Orchid frequent flyer account.

Flying AirPolonia ? ? ? ? ?

by filipdebont

As I started with my planning of my Poland trip (in November 2004), I just wanted to visit Warsaw and Krakow. After a short search, I found a cheap flight to Poland, with AirPolonia, which was flying from Charleroi - Belgium. The price for the return flight (Charleroi - Krakow - Charleroi) was 92 euro . . . . Cheap, heBut then a dark Sunday in December (6th of December 2004), AirPolonia suddenly stopped flying. Passengers with a departure before end of March could change their ticket for a light to Poland with Wizz Air. As I was going in May, that did not count for me.Several mails towards AirPolonia stayed unanswered. So I really thought that I had lost my money. So I launched my question on the travel forum of this great site, and och yes there came an answer. Great member Adam_UK gave me the tip to try to get my money back via my Credit Card Company (Visa).I followed his advice and...

Getting around

by Leipzig

In the south of Poland, between Krakow and Wroclaw is the only motorway of Poland. Condition is party very bad - lot of potholes and numerous road sites. But the major part is excellent, four or six lanes. Between Krakow and Katowice you have to pay a raod tax. It is 5 Zloty when you entre the autobahn and 5 Zloty when you leave. Be prepared and have a coin with you.

Train Katowice to Oswiecim

by Indyjack

I purchased a ticket for the train from Katowice to Oswiecim for 6 zlotys or about $1.50 USD. The 12 mile ride took 1 hour because the track is not in the best of shape, but overall it was a great experience to ride the way the Polish people do. Schedules can be obtained either at the Hotel Katowice or the train station.

Variety of Buses

by gale.blog.pl

Buses constitute a relatively cheap and popular means of transport. They are not really comfortable (with few exceptions) but reach places where trains cannot reach.Travelling by bus is safer than by train but you still shouldn't flash your digital camera or laptop computer.

Internet in Centralna Station... all night long !

by diamond7

If you are in Warszawa and are waiting for a train in Centralna Railstation during the night, perhaps spending some boring hours, then you have a chance to do something much more pleasant than just waiting the train, sleeping on a chair...Now, in Centralna Railstation, you have some internet-cafes open 24 hours a day, so you can surfing on internet during all night, instead of sleeping on a chair of a bar...

Take the train

by cheekykev

Use the trains whenever possible. They're great. Little has changed in ten years...you can still find yourself packed in with 7 others in one compartment...or you can still find yourself on a couchette headed for Krynica's healing waters. We live besides a railway sheds in the east of Warsaw and can hear them coming in to sleep on cold winter nights and after sultry summer days. Keep supporting them !
