Tychy Transportation

Tychy is located 20 kilometres (14 mi) south of Katowice (capital of Silesian Administrative Province) and 58 kilometres (36 mi) south of the Katowice-Pyrzowice airport.

There are direct flights to Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport (KTW) from:

1. Frankfurt Am Main (Germany - daily; german Lufthansa Airlines),

2. Dusseldorf (Germany Mon-Fri; german Lufthansa Airlines),

3. Warsaw (4-7 daily; LOT Polish Airlines)

From the airport to Tychy:
1. by my car (not always available, I'm going to work till 65yo or more :-),
2. by a taxi with a special price (email me in advance),
3. by a taxi (seems to be expensive),
4. bus to Katowice and from Katowice by bus or train (cheap).

Look at my picture: it's unbelievable small car called FIAT 126p (p means Polish) produced in 70' till... 90' just in Tychy. This one is for sale, for... 100 euros, I suppose hehe.

Be careful: there are still quite a lot of such old cars in Tychy streets. I don't know how they pass technical check ups obligatory each year.

LUXURY CARS in Tychy?
Except specifically Polish old cars (like Fiat 126 - the smaller car you can even imagine :-) you maybe surprised to see not many but quite a lot new, expensive and even quite luxury cars driving around Poland.

BOOM FOR CARS?
Since communism collapse in 1989 there are more and more rich people and private companies in Poland (and more poor people as well). It seems that some Poles can run their businesses very effectively. More: if you buy/lease a car for your company you can easily lower your income ----> you pay less taxes.

At the beginning of 90' some people were so crazy about new cars (new quality cars that time = "western" cars) that they bought them even when they didn't have and didn't expect any cash. Hmm... they just got difficult to pay for them credits. A few years ago Poles bought as I remmeber well over 700,000 new cars! More than in much more rich Switzerland.

Nowadays less people buy new cars and less people want to drive new and/or expensive cars. People want to buy just enough comfortable, good quality and not expensive cars.

Some tips for drivers:
1. Speed limit 60 km/h unless other marked on traffic signs (lower or higher),
2.Road police? Better avoid these guys, they control speed using handy radars on the entries to city sometimes,
3. Parking: no problem, in some places you must pay (to a parking-women) 1 PLN for guys in the city hall - a parking ticket is valid 1 hour in all Tychy,
4. DUI - never,
5. Watch out for young drivers and the old ladies!
5. Many roundabouts,
5. Accident? Call 997 and pray these guys to know your language!
6. Always KEEP RIGHT! Any doubts? Look at the picture!

Tychy is located 85 kilometres (53 mi) west of Krakow (Cracow) - Balice airport (KRK).

Why fly just to Krakow - Balice Airport?
1. My friends say that in Warsaw Okecie International Airport all formalities (luggage, customs) take ages, even more then 3 hours, in Krakow-Balice it's much faster,
2. There are direct bus lines from the airport to Krakow and to Katowice,
3. Krakow airport is not so crowded as Warsaw Okecie airport.

One of the key adventages of Tychy is favourable location in the vicinity of the national and international transport routes.

Look at the map.
Tychy Dworzec PKP means Tychy Railway Station. Tychy are located on the railway track Warsaw-Wien (Austria).
Beskidzka is the main road (No 1) in Poland. It's a dual carriageway leading from Gdansk (Danzig) and from Warsaw to Wien.
Mikolowska-Oswiecimska leads eastwords to Oswiecim (known as Aushwitz for the museum - Nazi consentration camp) and westwords to Gliwice and Wroclaw.
Districts A and B creates Old Tychy, C-Z New Tychy. In the south you can see Paprocany district and a part of Paprocany Lake.

Tychy is one of a few European cities with scheduled trolley bus lines, Electric buses allow keep city cleaner and more quite.
