WIELICZKA

.
Wieliczka Salt Mine is situated in city of Wieliczka, nowadays practically on the outskirts of Krakow, about 10 kilometres (6 miles) southeast of Krakow's center.
You can get to the mine:
- by a car,
- by a taxi (MY RECOMENDATION),
- by a bus (NOT recommended),
- by a minibus (MY RECOMENDATION),
- by a train (NOT recommended).

For more adventeorus travellers:
- by a bicycle,
- on foot (a little long way hehe).

Drive the E 40 route direction Tarnow and Rzeszow and turn right to Wieliczka on the suburbs of Krakow. Follow the direction signs.

TAXI STAND IN SZCZEPANSKI SQUARE IN KRAKOW

.
I recommend you to get to Wieliczka from Krakow by a taxi. It's cheap, fast (ca 20 min. from Krakow's downtown, up to 30-40 min. during ruch hours) and the most comfortable to get there.
I'm sure that you shouldn't pay more then 10 Euro/US$ for one way.

The wheel in salt mine

I have used microbuses to and back Krakow-Wieliczka. It was very fast and quite inexpensive trip. I think, the most microbuses come from Krakow bus station and later stop at some place on the way to Wieliczka. Remember, what you can just stop when with hand (like car hitchhiking).

When coming back I found microbus just near Wieliczka salt mine building.

The best way to get to Wieliczka from Krakow is the minibus. You´ll be there in half an hour.

I don´t remember where they depart from, but people in hotels/hostels will certainly be able to help you with this.

From the bus stop, ask for the directions and walk. The mine is not far.

The map to Wieliczka & how to get there ! The bus will stop you at a junction leading to The Salt Mine.
Ask people for a better direction.
Also, you will get your bus back to Krakow from the same junction although the bus is not frequent so it's better you are well-informed of the departure time from Krakow & back to Krakow.

The best way to reach Wieliczka is by bus, if you have your own car it is preferable.
The Lux-Bus from Krakow are departed frequently all day long to Wieliczka. The bus will let you of nearby the building/the entrance of the Salt Mine.
Picture on the left is the entrance building to the Salt Mine & you can see people lining up..

THE DANILOWICZ SHAFT

.
The Mine is accessible from Krakow Main Railway Station (Dworzec Glowny) by cheap LUX-BUS and CONTRA minibuses.
They go everyday every 5 min. to late evening hours. Their next stops in Krakow are opposite to Main Post Office and at Starowislna Street.

There is another minibus UNIBUS outside downtown of Krakow: it starts from Nowy Kleparz

You start your underground tour in the Danilowicz Shaft.

BUS 204 TO WIELICZKA

.
You can get to Wieliczka by a scheduled bus No 204 but it starts not in the downtown, it goes from... Borek Falecki. So you have to get to Borek Falecki first (by another bus or by a tram).

Ticket to Wieliczka costs 2.2 PLN (4 PLN = 1 Euro/US$). Cheap? hehe
