Wroclaw has an extensive tram network consisting of about 25 tram lines, which mainly serve the city centre and its vicinity. Operation times are from 05:00 h until 24:00 h and there are no night services available. A single ticket sets you back 2 Zloty (2006). Tickets can be purchased at the yellow green Ruch kiosks or from ticket vending machines. The ticket has to be punched when boarding a tram. As well as the tram network, Wroclaw's bus network also belongs to the local public transportation company MPK. They run about 60 bus lines on normal, express, suburban and even night lines. The normal route fare is 2 Zloty (2006). Night buses and express buses are more expensive. The tickets are the same as for the trams. If you change the bus or tram you have to punch a new ticket. Tickets for various periods, e.g. day tickets are also available. Please find more info about public transporation in my "Explore Wroclaw by tram" tip. Leave a Comment

I flew to Wroclaw from Dortmund in Germany with the Hungarian airline Wizzair. The Airport of Wroclaw (Port Lotniczy) is called Copernicus Airport and is located about 13 km north-west of the centre. Bus #406 serves the city centre. It operates every 20-30 minutes and a single ticket costs only 2 Zloty (2006). Just make sure you buy the ticket in advance from the green yellow Ruch kiosk inside the terminal building. Leave a Comment

Wroclaw's Old Town (Stare Miasto) is not too big and due to the islands in the river Odra and the connecting foot bridges it is best explored on foot. There are many pedestrianised streets or pathways which are not accessible to cars or public transportation. So when wandering around the Old Town don't miss having a look at the smaller sidestreets. If you travel by tram or bus you have to pay extra for your oversized luggage. (rucksacks, valise, etc.). You have to buy an extra ticket for your luggage. It costs 1 zl. (It's called - bilet ulgowy.) Calculate before buying any bus/tram passes. One single journey costs from 2 to- 2.80 zl. (about 0.50 Euro Cent). Night buses are more expensive. (about 4zl -1Euro). We don't have any zones. The single ticket is valid for one journey. If you change a bus or tram you have to cancel a new ticket again. One day tram/bus pass costs 9 zl. (2004) The tickets for trams and buses are the same. We have two types of buses. Fast lines (marked with letters A, C etc.) cost more but they are as slowly and (un)confortabe as the other lines marked with numbers. Don't ask me why. I don't understand either. If you find the accomodation in the center you don't need to use them. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

A certain number of tram and bus lines run across the city, from the centre to the suburbs. I have not used them during my stay, but I took some photos of trams. They are rather old vehicles, but people use them a lot (look how crowdy the tram in the fourth pic is), because moving in the city centre is difficult and, maybe, because most of them haven't got a car. by LouCypher22 The main public transportation operator in Wroclaw is ZDiK,there r buses and trams, tickets r cheap 1zloty for students, schoolchildren and so on,2 zlotys for adults(1.40,2.80 on the fast lines-yellow buses-do not stop on every bus stop, only "on request"-press the red button near the doors usually marked "stop")One can also buy daily ticket somthin like 4.5-9zlotys,10-day ticket, monthly one and quarter-year.ZDiK is quite efficient but sometimes (morning/afternoon) the traffic is so huge it is better to use your feet;) buses are mostly new Volvo ones-quite comfortable, although there r still few old Ikaruses:)(guess ther r going to be in service till 2006)trams r also ok,and depending on the line they may be really fast or really slow:) trams and buses go every 15 minutes, and every 1h in the night(special night lines) saturdays/sundays every 20 minutes(day) remember to validate your ticket just after u get to bus/tram,Guess also ticket for big luggage is needed Well...guess that's all U should know:) Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

Bendy Bus by alancollins The 406 bus is the one that gets you to the city centre. I had to drop off a hire car at the airport just after a flight had arrived. Being a small airport it was suddenly crowded. I had to catch the 406 bus back into the city centre. I noticed that people trying to board the bus were stuck in a long line at the front of the bus purchasing tickets from the driver instead of using a ticket machine. Having boarded the bus most of the passenger remained with their luggage at the crowded front end of the bus. As I already had a ticket I simply walked to the centre door and got a seat at the rear of the bus. So I would suggest, if you can purchase ticket at a machine, you will jump the queue and you are more likely to get a seat at the rear of the bus. A few stops further on the bus picks a lot of passengers from some shops, so the bus becomes packed and its a 25/30 minute bumpy journey to the city centre. Leave a Comment

Local tram by alancollins Because of the roadworks in and around the city centre, I discovered the hard way that the buses and tram do not always travel the same route as shown on local maps. There I was waiting for the tram to turn right and instead it turned left. Panic!!! I quickly got off the tram and then tried to establish my location. I had to retrace my route and not trying to look to much like a tourist I found a park in which I could sit down and and have a good look at the map. It took an hour to finally arrive at my original destination. By the time I started back I had worked out what buses to take and saved myself another long walk. The another with the trams is, they may only travel one way down some road and you require a different numbered tram for travelling the other way. Leave a Comment
