The Old Town historical district in Krakow’s heart and soul
is a matter of fact the medieval city founded by
Prince Boleslav V in 1257, the ruler of Poland then
Europe’s largest in the Middle Ages is still a very well preserved
original grid of streets with the huge central Main Square, ,

Probably not necessary to seek this place out there are better bars, but if you are passing it may be worth grabbing a seat and sampling one of their numerous beers. If you desire you can have your beer served up in a meter tube with a tap for you to pour yourself. We did not partake in this as we were there in the afternoon

I couldn’t resist visiting this bar after reading the review by johngayton. You enter by a small door just off the street and you then are guided to a bar area by a member of staff. There appears to be lots of caverns and corners to sit in, which gives the bar a lot of atmosphere .the music is rock and the crowd is very young trendy rockers. We would have stayed a longer but my hubby could not work the jukebox properly and put the same Alice cooper song on 3 times straight after one after another so we left as it came on for the 3rd time feeling a bit embarrassed.

This bar is adorned with Buddhas and karma sutra paintings, strange choice for a bar theme but it works quite well. Grab a seat upstairs in the balcony on one of the very comfy sofas and start people watching while sipping on a cocktail. One on the nicer bars around the square

Posh little bar in kazimierz area, and as no bar in Krakow appears complete without a theme, this bars theme is time. With a number of time pieces around the bar (check out the ceiling in the toilet nice touch I thought) for me this bar was a bit pretentious but my hubby really liked it, quite chilled atmosphere very much for the beautiful people.

The med bar is like many cellar bars in Krakow only it has a medical theme with x-rays on the walls and staff in nursing outfits, also if you are a doctor or nurse you get 20% off on a Tuesday (wish I had took my id). We went in this bar a few times as it was on our way back to the hostel and I really liked it, the music was good mainly indie, and it is split into lots of little rooms which make it very cosy. But when we went in on the Thursday night there was a lot of British stag dos, which changed the atmosphere a lot, and while they were not badly behaved, it’s not really my scene.

CK Browar at ul. Podwale 6-7 is another of Krakow’s cellar bars but this one is also a microbrewery producing, amongst other, a wheat beer, served with a twist of lemon, and a delicious ginger flavoured beer, amber, tasty and with the tingling of ginger left on your tongue after you’ve sipped it. If you’re in a group sit yourself in one of the booths and you can arrange to have draft beer brought to your table in a long glass tube which it can then be poured by tap.
The atmosphere is lively and the music loud though not necessarily to everyone’s taste. We were mightily amused by a Polish version of Chesney Hawkes’ “My One and Only” sung by a guy who sounded as if he had really bad laryngitis, or smoked 30 Marlboro a day! Speaking of cigarettes it does get smoky which, again, might not suit everyone.
The bar also includes a restaurant serving Polish/Bistro cuisine and has a big screen TV showing some sports. The vibes good, the staff friendly and we really liked the art deco light fittings. Recommended

If you like your beer cold and your music rocking then U Kacpra at ul. Slawkowska 2 is the place to be.
It’s a fantastic dark vaulted cellar bar with brick walls, low lighting, wooden benches, stools and tables and a pounding soundtrack of AC/DC, Nightwing and others. Sit on the raised platform at the back – probably called a mezzanine in chicer places but you don’t go to U Kacpra for chic! – and you have a fantastic view over the often crowded floor below – sit by the bar and you are truly in the thick of things and never much more than a nod away from your next Zywiec or vodka.
The atmosphere is great and the crowd comprises a good mix of locals and visitors of varied ages. At weekends it can get very busy so either get there early and bag a table or arrive late and be prepared to stand, Whichever it is well worth a visit. Forget chic, go for rock!

This is a cracking bar/restaurant, a minor zig-zag from the Eastern corner of the main square, and well worth a visit both as a bar and as a restaurant. Unfortunately I didn't find this place until my last few days here in Krakow, but this could quite easily have become one of my regular haunts. The pub itself is quite spacious by Krakow standards with three main areas (including a No Smoking room!) on the ground floor and an upstairs gantry and when it is busy, it's busy with a good buzz and particularly friendly - "Good evening my friend, a large beer?" - proprietor - well worth a visit.
The "Dog in the Fog" of the title is in fact a beer produced by the Lech/Tylskie brewers who provide an alternative theme to the pub; the main theme being of course the Oldsmobile, and the great thing about the "Dog" is that it "never fails to find his way" - unlike me then!!
See tip in "Restaurants" for more.
Dress Code: No particular code apparent but most customers seemed smart/casual.
