There are not many places great for dancing in Krakow. Undoubtly Mezzanine is one of them. . Good drinks, good door security guards (they really know whom not to allow to enter haha), good DJs. Sometimes live music. .
You won't be let in wearing sneakers or shorts. Party clothes recommended. Leave a Comment Theme: DancingAddress: ul. Sienna 2Phone: (+48 12) 422 42 03Directions: Street east of the Main Market Square (leads to the Little Market Square)

. Famous and legendary "Piwnica pod Baranami" (= Cellar under the Rams) is located in the Palace under the Rams (Palac pod baranami) and it's a kind of cabaret and much more: art, poetry, songs, great humour, people, famous artists including "future artists" (read my local customs tips). . It's still great place although the soul of the cabaret, its creator and underground artist Piotr Skrzynecki passed away in 1997. And it seems to be much less underground and a little more commercial now then in 80' and before (I suppose). Everything is in Polish language but you can listen to beautiful and real polish songs/poems, watch people, meet some culture-world VIPs and talk to them. I recommend you to buy CDs/MC and listen to the songs of "Piwnica pod Baranami" - available in many local stores before you go there. If you like them... it's place for you even if you can speak Polish nothing. . Tickets (recommended reservation in advance): Malopolski Osrodek Kultury 31 - 008 Kraków Rynek Glowny 25 tel. (+48 12) 421 25 00 . The cabaret has no specific schedule - it starts at 9pm at... some days. . The anthem of the Cellar under the Rams is song/poem "Desiderata" - they always sing it at the end - I LOVE IT (text in my page intro): http://mailer.fsu.edu/~ssheffie/desidera.htm www.fleurdelis.com/desidera.htm .
As you like but... a little artism in your dress recommended: ladies in old-fashionable clothes for example hehe. Do not forget to call home, best at night if you live in western hemisphere because of time difference. Buy a telephone card and go to the nearest telephone box. To call countries abroad from Poland, dial the following international access codes: UK - 0044 USA - 011 Ireland - 00353 Canada- 001 and OMIT the first 0 from the area/city code in each case. . Now you can RELAX. Take time to smell roses. .
In telephone boxes suit and tie is not obligatory, I suppose :-). Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Usually close to you in the old town.

. There are hundrends of famous people living in Krakow including two Nobel Prize winners, famous film directors, poets, writers, scientists, actresses, actors, painters, sculpterors etc. If you are lucky you can meet them, get their signature, even talk to them during official meetings. Let's invite me Krakow's Nobel Prize winners first: 1. Czeslaw MILOSZ - The Nobel Prize in Literature 1980 winner who with uncompromising clear-sightedness voices man's exposed condition in a world of severe conflicts. www.nobel.se/literature/laureates/1980 www.ibiblio.org/ipa/milosz/bio.html 2. Wislawa SZYMBORSKA - The Nobel Prize in Literature 1996 winner for poetry that with ironic precision allows the historical and biological context to come to light in fragments of human reality. www.nobel.se/literature/laureates/1996/index.html http://www.polishworld.com/wsz You can read her poem written after 11th Sept. tragedy on my USA page. .

. You can meet with people of great art in Krakow - personally (official meeting or if you are lucky just by accident haha) or with their art masterpieces. Hmm... not so easy to choose a few of them. OK, look: 1. Slawomir MROZEK - I love his plays - NEXT Krakow's Nobel Prize in literature? Haha, who knows? He is the best known among the Polish avant-garde dramatists. His plays have been performed in most of the capital cities in Europe and in New York with enormous success. He received the "Prix de l'Humour Noir" for "The Elephant" in France. He continued to write with success both short stories and dramatic works, becoming - alongside with Beckett and others - a revered creator of the modern theatre. Festivals of Mrozek's plays were held in Amsterdam (1988), Cracow (1990) and Stockholm (1991). His latest work "Love on the Crimea" was awarded the Crédit Industriel et Commercial of Paris. www.culture.pl/en/culture/artykuly/os_mrozek_slawomir http://hosted.at.imago.com.au/shadow/mrozek.htm 2. Stanislaw LEM - satirical and philosophical science fiction writer. Lem's books were translated into forty languages, these editions total over twenty seven million copies. He is probably the best single sci-fi author of the late 20th century not to write in English. Lem is best known to English readers for his 1961 novel Solaris, the subject motion picture from 20th Century Fox. Have you already seen new movie "SOLARIS" directed by Steven Soderbergh starring George Clooney? What do you think? The American premiere of Solaris took place on November 27th, 2002; European will be in March 2003. www.lem.pl www.solaristhemovie.com www.k26.com/solaris 3. Krzysztof PENDERECKI - a top world composer: a Grammy Award (1988), a UNESCO International Music Council Award (1993) and many others. www.usc.edu/dept/polish_music/composer/penderecki.html . Krakow's Old Town is a magical and a very romatic place in Europe. Why not to spend a romantic evening/night (maybe honeymoon?) with your lovely wife/husband/lover/fiance etc. there? Any suggestions... choose what you like, you can: 1. Buy a romantic gift (Cloth Hall) + flowers (Main Market Square flower's market opened 24h) + candles + eventually CDs/MCs with your lovely music if your hotel room is equipped with CD/MC player; 2. Invite your partner (is it correct word? :-) to romantic supper preferrably (in my opinion) in underground mediaeval cellars lighted by candles or/and torches with romantic music inside; 3. Order romantic dishes (with some fire for example) + desserts + crazy drink (1 :-); 4. Call for horse-cab and get to your hotel room (you can order horses to go to flower's market first - eastern side of the Main Market Square to buy very romantic flowers even at 4am :-) 5. Light candles, listen to music, order champagne or wine (or buy in advance, don't forget to buy cork-screw haha) and... (censored by my small knowledge of English haha) hmm... if beds... king size beds are the best. Good night. The next day will be great :-))). P.S. Do NOT follow the advice from my picture, instructions are NOT romantic and there are many Krakow's kids living throuout the world, I suppose :-))) (over 4 mln visitors to Krakow each year haha).
As to point 5 above: preferrable no or almost no dress :-)). Do you know any such place? Leave a Comment Theme: Adult SpotAddress: The Old Town + your hotel room

We did not do any real nighttime activity in Krakow, because we were always too exhausted after a whole day of sightseeing, but walking around Rynek Glowny in the evening and enjoy the architecture in a different "light" was wonderful! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Atmosfera is a dark and cave-like cellar bar. It has Leonardo da Vinci's scientific drawings on the walls, and students tend to frequent the place. Pivo is good and cheap, the atmosphere is very relaxed, friendly people and good converstions! When we visited it we heard good music everynight (mostly Rammstein)
no specific requirements, though wearing a clownsuite would make an interesting impression. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Pl. Szczepanski 7, Open 12:00 - 02:00, Fri, Sat 12:00 - 04:00.Other Contact: tel. 421 97 09.

INFO NOT STOLEN just scrambled and rearranged The Old Town historical district in Krakow’s heart and soul is a matter of fact the medieval city founded by Prince Boleslav V in 1257, the ruler of Poland then Europe’s largest in the Middle Ages is still a very well preserved original grid of streets with the huge central Main Square, ,
Definately more than your birthday suit on a cold Febuary night with snow on the ground. Leave a Comment Theme: People WatchingAddress: Old Town KrakowDirections: It's slap bang in the center of town, it is the town!
