Although it was June when we visited, the wind was quite chilly early in the morning and at night, so it would be useful to bring along a light jacket. It also rained quite a lot, but was too warm for raingear, an umberella will suffice.
Loads of film because there is so much to take piccies of! Oh remember your batteries, mine ran out and it was fairly expensive to replace them!
A good pair of walking shoes! Something to cover your head when visiting the Kazimierz area. Leave a Comment

In Your Pocket - Krakow by HORSCHECK An excellent resource for information about travels to Eastern or Central Europe is "In Your Pocket". It provides information of more than 50 cities at the travel portal In Your Pocket . About 20 printed full city guides are available locally at the tourist information, kiosks or hotels. I got myself the Krakow guide (price 5 Zloty, 2004) at the tourist information of the airport in Warsaw and the guide helped me a lot to explore the city. Leave a Comment

Almost all of the significant tourist sights in Krakow are within a 20 minute walk of each other, so you can go an entire week without using a car, taxi, or public transportation. However, you MUST have comfortable shoes, because you will be doing a lot of walking in Krakow. In terms of clothing, Krakow is a relatively informal city. WIth the exception of a few very high-end restaurant, suits/ties for men and dresses for women are not necessary. Decent pants and a decent shirt (with a collar for men) will be fine for nearly 100% of the places that most tourists go to, including the vast majority of bars and restaurants. A windbreaker is helpful in the summer, as rainy and cloudy days can get cool, especially at night.
Bring extra memory cards and extra videocassettes. Krakow has a ton of great things to photograph and videotape, and digital photo supplies are not always easily available.
Guidebooks - We used the Poland book published by Eyewitness Travel Guides and the Krakow book published by Landmark Visitors Guides Electricity - Poland, like most Eastern European nations, uses two-pronged 240 volt plugs. Americans will need to bring an adapter. Mobile Telephone - Poland, like the rest of the EU, uses GSM phones. Leave a Comment

by Pawtuxet My husband and daughter had the presence of mind to bring rain jackets, but I had to buy one... and another sweater...when in country. No matter. Love to shop. Loved the tour in spite of the rain. I often seem to be cold in Poland. Guess I'll travel in summer next time. Hasn't prevented me from loving the country, tho. Leave a Comment

My Guidebook by kentishgirl When visiting Krakow and surrounding areas I used as my main tool Lonely Planets Central Europe guidebook. It offers a wealth of information on what to see, where to stay and how to get there. Leave a Comment

In Main Market Square by matcrazy1 Get a notebook (with Polish-English dictionary on CD, guide and maps of Krakow on CD or buy them in Krakow) - remember about 220V (230V soon) voltage and European plugs (check my Poland's page for more). If you don't have any notebook you can go to any of numerous internet cafes (look at the pic; Rynek Glowny = Main Market Square), some operates 24h haha - specially for very addicted VT-ers. Krakow's batman by matcrazy1 I recommend you to pack larger clothes then you used to wear. Why? There are at least 2 reasons: 1. Eating/food in Krakow is delicious and you may catch EA (eating addiction) and it's not necessarilly low-fat eating so be prepared to get a few kilograms/pounds. 2. Hmmm... Krakow is not a paradise for early morning street jogging and sport lovers. Instead you can practice crazy dancing all nights there. Leave a Comment
