Plac Zamkowy and the statue of...
Favorite thing: Plac Zamkowy and the statue of Sigismund III... Warsaw's Old City is charming, but when I was there it was absolutely freezing! It's hard to fully enjoy the atmosphere of a place when your fingers and toes feel like blocks of ice -- so the next time around I will definitely visit during the summer...
Fondest memory: Also, I was horrified to come across a Pizza Hut right in the Old City, just a stone's throw from the Sigismund III statue. If these fastfood restaurants have to expand into Europe, couldn't (and shouldn't) they confine themselves to the modern districts of cities and leave the historical sites alone?! Anyway, that's just my opinion...
Favorite thing: The most part of the downdown was ruined during WWII. So, all that you can see on a photo is a reconstruction.
From gale.blog.pl 's VT page I've just learned that number of old churches in Selesia were demolished just to take an original old bricks for reconstruction (!!!) Thia sounds very sad and stupid. ;-(
Favorite thing: On a tall pillar in the centre of the square is a statute of King Zygmunt III, who moved the capital from Krakow to Warsaw.
