Cinemas, theatres, concerts, Warsaw

Check with your tour guide or the locals to find out when the next concert in the square is scheduled. We didn't stay to hear it but the crowds seemed pretty enthusiastic. Wonderful energy on a summer night with artists, restaurants, cafes, and lots of people out on a warm evening.

There are many night clubs in Warsaw. And the night scene of Warsaw change very fast as I noticed in recent years.

The most known clubs, all located in center/downtown, are:
- Ground Zero
- Underground
- Hybrydy - legendary student club est. in 1957
Hmm... excuse, it seems that the owners/managers of Warsaw clubs either can't speak English or don't want foreign guests - all club webpages are still written exclusively in Polish language. Welcome to... Krakow's clubs :-).

Excuse, I know only the last one and exclusively from 90' of 20th century at his previous location. This was a student club which organized concerts of various more and less famous both Polish and foreign musicians of which most (but not all) were available for non-students as well. You must be over 18yo to get inside but they never checked ID when I was there so I could see some folks of say 16yo there as well.


I remember Hybrydy very well because I met Jacek Kaczmarski - Polish Bob Dylan - as I remember well just there for the first time and we became friends after his great concert. Our friendship survived even his immigration to Australia. Jacek passed away at age 47 on Easter Saturday 10 April 2004...

Dress Code: Trendy, young but casual :-))) clothes for girls/women, men... well, I don't know... no trainers neither ties rather :-).

The performances in the Grand Theatre in Warsaw are just marvelous! Every time I go and see one it turnes out to be magical and a really great experiance! Not only the inde of the theatre looks amazing, the stenograpghy na the play are always unforgettable. Don`t miss it!

Dress Code: You have to dress up! Classy clothes are required!

You can see in Warsaw many superstars of all kind of music. Tickets are much more cheaper then in West Europe. Lately I took part in concerts of Manhattan Transfer, Van Morisson, Sting, Dr. John, George Benson (see picture: me and George), Procol Harum, Bobby McFerrin, Cassandra Wilson.

There are numerous cinemas in the city which show the vast majority of films in their native language with Polish subtitles. You only tend to find that children's films are dubbed.

Many of the older cinemas are being replaced by modern multi-screen developments as you find in other European countries.

There's plenty of night clubs in Warsaw. The most popular are: 'Ground Zero', 'Underground' and 'Hybrydy' (this club is mainly for university students so unless you have a university ID card you may not be let in). They usually do not check your age at the entrance but you may be asked for an ID- you should be 18 to be permitted to enter, but it happens really rarely...

Dress Code: Never, ever wear trainers if you wanna get into a club...Must I say that any kind of sports-wear is also out of the question?

For persons who would like to spent nice evening in theatre or opera, the best choice is Teatr Wielki.
One of the biggest scene in Europe.
