 | Bialystok Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 31 | | This is now the Cathedral. This beautiful neogothic church was built at the beginning of XX century by project of Jozef Pius Dziekonski. This church is very beautiful inside. There are too great stained glass windows. I think that the history of St. Fara Church is very interesting. In 19th century Poland was annexed by Prussia, Russia and Austria. Bialystok belonged to Russians. Polish people couldn`t build anything without Russians` permission... In 1899, after 39 year waiting period, city dwellers received a permit to build a little annexe to an old church in Bialystok...Later it turned out that this tiny annexe is many times as big as the main church. It is a "solid comment" on persecution that took place in Poland in 19th century... The "red" church this is annexe, the "white".... this is the main church. Now the church is the Cathedrale. In the 16th century there was a Gothic count of the Great Crown Marshall - Piotr Wesolowski. Next it was a residence of family Branicki. The court acquired a Renaissance character (1602-1697). In mid-18th century Jan Klemens Branicki rebuilt it again. And this is at this time the Baroque palace called "Versailles of Podlasie". Look at the haeven on this pic. The clouds are great, aren`t it? Warning!! There are in the park a lot of pigeons - so be careful if you don`t want to have a "medaille" ;) Leave a Comment Directions: In centrum

The Equerry`s Home called too the Pavillon des Invites was built in 1771. This was the guest-house of family Branicki. Now there is the seat of Registrar`s Office and a Society "Wspolnota Polska" (Polish Community). Behind this building there is a little park and little river called Bialka. the Atlas statue on the Branickis Palace courtyard. Today in Branickis Palace there is the seat of Medical Academy. It is really a pity, that there isn`t a museum or interesting collection... But the palace building and the park around I like very much. Leave a Comment Directions: city centrum
