I flew to Gdansk from Dortmund with the Hungarian Airline Wizzair. Gdansk's Airport is one of the few places in the world which is named after a living person: Lech Walesa. The airport is situated about 10 km west of the city centre. The cheapest options to get to town are the local buses No. B (to the city centre) and No. 110 (to the train station Wrzeszcz). A single ticket for the bus is 4.20 Zloty (2005) and a trip to the city centre takes about 35 minutes. Leave a Comment

Flying high with LOT by Ekaterinburg If you are travelling to Gdansk from Warsaw you should really give some serious thought to how you are going to do it. Because there are only direct flights to Warsaw from Cork I had to make the journey both ways to and from Gdansk. The morning we arrived we flew to Gdansk an hour later. At the time I thought this was an extravagence but with hindsight I would now regard it as common sense. Because I booked ahead with LOT we got a very good price - less than EUR50 each. The flight took about an hour and we arrived in Gdansk, refreshed and ready for action. On our return to Warsaw I insisted on taking the train to see more of the countryside. First class on the train is cheaper than flying but I found it a complete waste of time. We spent more than 5 hot sticky hours on the train and the countryside was a major disappointment. It seemed to me that there was absolutely nothing but wheatfields and the occasional stand of trees, the whole way between Gdansk and Warsaw. Just outside Gdansk we saw two girls working on a vegetable patch in skimpy bikinis, which my husband enjoyed, but other than that the landscape was really boring.

Flying there by gosiaPL You may choose to fly to Gdansk, a few airlines now fly into the city: EasyJet, Ryanair, Wizzair, SAS, Lufthansa, Germanwings, Norwegian, as well as Polish LOT and CentralWings. The airport is located in Rembiechowo, about 8km away from the centre of Gdansk. Getting to the centre of Gdansk: You can get on bus B to get to the Main Train Station, which is centrally located. The ride will take about 40 minutes (depending on the traffic). The fare is 2.80 zloty (less than $1), tickets available at kiosks or with the bus driver. An alternative is a taxi but it'll cost you around 40 zloty (over $13) - make sure you take a taxi from the rank just opposite the terminal (City Plus Taxi, phone 9686). DO NOT get on a taxi offered by unlicenced drivers for they will rip you off! Check the airport website for more info. Leave a Comment

by gale.blog.pl Take a plane from abroad or from other major city in Poland. LOT is the most expensive Polish airline. However if you're travelling to Gdansk in business, time counts. Leave a Comment

by Ben-UK Gdansk Rebiechowo airport is about 15km west of the city. Buses from the airport are nos: 110 & B. LOT also runs a bus service hourly I think. There is a LOT office in Gdansk centre at: ul. Waly Jagiellonskie 2/4, near the Upland Gate. (tel: 301-1161). The main LOT website address is shown below. Leave a Comment Theme: AirplaneOther Contact: www.lot.com

Gdansk airport offers connections to Warsaw and Copenhagen with Lot Polish Airlines and SAS (both members of Star Alliance). The airport is just the kind I like. Not very big but there are enough facilities to make you feel comfortable while you wait for your flight. I've no idea about buses from the airport as my friend always collected me but as with all airports, there are a number of taxis waiting outside ready to exploit vunerable tourists/businessmen. by gale.blog.pl Air Polonia is the first private (read: cheap) airline. It offers very good service at very moderate prices. I can recommend this airline as a perfect choice for those who value time. Please check whether they still travel to Gdansk as they used to have some financial problems and could abandon domestic flights. Leave a Comment

Colourful planes by alancollins Used the Airport recently. It is compact with everything at hand. The car hire desks, money exchange, buses and taxis are all a matter of yards away as you leave the customs hall. I flew to Gdansk from Luton with Wizzair who have recently started a service there. Internet prices are good if you book a few weeks in advance and the aircraft brand new Airbus A320's. Leave a Comment
