"coffeeheaven" is a chain of coffee/sandwich bars in Central Europe (Poland, Czech Republic and Latvia in 2005, more soon). They offer many kinds of both hot and cold coffee, other soft drinks (fresh orange and grapefruit juice), fresh sandwiches and cakes (baked on place) and are usually located in shopping malls or supermarkets. It's my recommendation exclusively for not a budget visitor in a hurry. As I am definetely more for local than chain restaurants/bars, this coffeeheaven in Gdansk was my first ever. I didn't expect anything special but... I was surprisingly satisfied about my drinks. The design of the interior and service were OK. The only disadvantages are paper cups for coffee (can you accept it?), high prices (as for Poland) and no information that you have to first make an order in a bar (many people took a seat and waited, waited... for nothing :-).
Juice from fresh oranges (8.50 zl = over € 2.00) and my large caffe latte (9.00 zl = € 2.25) tasted very well. The same interior for years by zaffaran The cafe is perfectly situated-in Dluga street and worth popping in and having a sip of coffee, tea or hot chocolate (especially recommended in winter!)
Coffee is good - it costs 1,25 euro, you may also have a piece of delicious cake (about 1,5 euro). It's half self-service as you order at the counter and wait at the table(not very long). In summer seats in open air are provided. U Dzika, front patio by gosiaPL This is the place to go to for the Polish specialty, pierogi, which is stuffed dumplings. They have 15 types so you'll find a flavour you like. I've been there several times and I usually take a sampler dish of 5 types (2 pierogi each), they are all delicious! This is the best option if you want to try a variety of pierogi, and you can choose which ones go into your dish. Isn't this a great idea? For a dish of pierogi and something to drink you'll pay less than $10. Be prepared to spend more if you want other types of food (meat, fish) which they also do in great variety. Bar Przystan by Landad Imagine, walking along stormy, windy Baltic seaside from Sopot to the direction of Gdansk....you get cold after walking 15 minutes, you walk 3 more and.... there at the front of your eyes, on the beach, a nice pub called Bar Przystan appears, where you can eat some good fish dishes and warm yourself up with one of hot or cold drinks :-))) it is a cosy local.... You will find there a various range of food, from Baltic sea and from farther places... They are famous for the good kitchen in the whole Poland. The atmosphere is relaxing and normal ( just wooden tables, some fishnets on the walls, no table cloth, paper plates and cutlery) but the big plus is the view from the windows - they overlook the Baltic Bay... :-) There is also a tarasse that you can sit outside...
Try fisherman's soup for 7,50 PLN with salmon inside !!! Mniami ! :-D. Take also garlic bread ! :-) For exaple a cup of tea with lemone will cost you 2,50 PLN. But you will find there much more warm and cold dishes mostly fish... the price level is also various. *** If you found the tip useful, please RATE it. We, people from the northern cold Europe, need to do something in the winter that warms us up a bit. So if you plan a trip to Poland in the winter time, try our local specialities: 1. Hot beer - Grzane piwo (beer, honey or sirup, cinnamon, carnation) (5-6 PLN in a pub) 2. Hot wine - Grzane wino (like German Gluee Wein but a bit stronger). You can buy it in a shop - Grzaniec Galicyjski, Grzaniec Staropolski - 10-14 PLN a bottle. (6-8 PLN in a pub for a cup 200ml) 3. Tee with current (rum) - taste good and warms up quickly ;-) (6-10 PLN in a pub) 4. Of course also Irish coffee ( around 12 PLN)
Cold local drinks: Zubrowka z sokiem jablkowym (Zubrowka vodka mixed with an apple juice 50:50, or 33:66) you can not taste vodka in it. I personally don't like vodka but this is an exception, the same as the Danska black currant vodka mixed with black currant juice. *** If you find the tip useful, please RATE it. View from the restaurant by Landad This is a restaurant mostly for... working people. It is placed on the XVI floor of the office building (one of the famous in Gdansk called Zieleniak). The food they serve is like at home mostly Polish, but you can also get some specialties from the other parts of the word. The price level is from 8 to 15 PLN for a single dinner dish. They serve also beer and some alcohol. The decoration is nice (fish nets, shells) and it get changed from time to time. The first room is typical for eating, only tables and chairs, the second is more for relaxing with sofas and coffee tables. The strongest point is the view, you can see the whole northern part of the 3-cities (also famous Gdansk shipyard and the 3 crosses monument at the front of the main gate of the shipyard), together with a part of the Baltic sea - especially when there is good weather (sometimes it is possible to sea a bit of the city Hel - placed at the end of peninsula! check map ;-))) ). I really like to go there and rest for a while when having a break. Just remember, the building itself is old, was built in 70ties, so don't expect luxury. By the way, people say that it was build in a very special way, from the top to the bottom !!! You should see some more information about it ! ;-))) If you want to get to the restaurant, simply go to the building, get in a lift (on the left or right site from the entry) and press floor XVI, some of the lifts go only to the XVth floor then you have to walk up -stairs. On the northern side of the XVIth floor you will see the door to the restaurant. Just remember that during the work week they are open 9:00 - 18:00 and on Saturday they officially are closed but... when a customer is there, they told me, that they will serve her/him. Unfortunatelly, I don't know for how long, probably not longer then 3 p.m., you may try ;-)))). They have menu written also in English !!!
There are several good dishes, I eat there very often because I work in the building :-)))). Anyway... you can eat e.g. a breakfast: 1. Eggs on butter (hot chocolate, 2 toasts) - 6 PLN 2. Eggs on bacon or ham (hot chocolate, 2 toasts) - 8 PLN 3. Boiled sausages (hot chocolate, 2 toasts, ketchup, mustard) - 8 PLN 4. Fried sausages with cheese (hot chocolate, 2 toasts, ketchup, mustard) -6 PLN. Soups: 1.Old traditional zurek soup with white sausage - 4 PLN 2. Borsch soup with boiled meat-balls 4 PLN 3. Tripe soup - 5 PLN Also a dish with pork, chicken & turkey or fish and also vegetarian food, e.g.: 1. Grilled pickled pork, salad, chips - 12 PLN 2. Grilled chicken breast with sweet chilli, salad, chips - 13 PLN 3. Trout with baked apples, salad, chips - 15 PLN 4. Salmon on spinach, salad, chips - 15 PLN 5. Young potatoes, eggs, vegetables, soya chops, clotted milk - 13 PLN. You can get there also Ice cream with fruits 7 PLN, Home baked cake 3 PLN... *** If you find the tip useful, please RATE it. by AcornMan You obviously can't visit Poland without trying the local quisine, and Swojski Smak has some of the best Polish food I've ever eaten, all at amazingly low prices. Of all the places where we ate in Gdansk, this one had the best value for our money, the most extensive menu, the most generous portions, and the best tasing food. And unlike many traditional Polish restaurants, Swojski Smak has a lot more to offer than just perogies and other dough-heavy meals. I promise you won't leave hungry. We actually ate here twice because it was so good. Our first experience was nearly perfect. Unfortunately during our second visit the quality of the service we received dropped quite a bit, though the food was still excellent. I still think it deserves five stars because it was by far the best Polish food we had during our two-week trip and because, relatively speaking, the service we received everywhere we ate was significantly lower than it would be at any US restaurant. Just a cultural difference, I guess, so I don't want to judge them too harshly just because of that. PRZYSTANEK ZDROWIA (GREEN WAY) RESTAURANT by matcrazy1, 1 more photos Przystanek Zdrowia (Healthy Stop in Polish) is a small restaurant which belongs to a chain of vege restaurants called Green Way. They offer limited choice of vegetarian food and better choice of juices. Add crepes (nalesniki) and ice-creams (1.2 zl per scoop) sold in front of the restaurant.
I had "nalesnik" that is crepe (nalesniki in plural) with chocolate sauce - good option for a budget visitor in a hurry. Nalesnik cost 2 zl (below € 0.5) and addings cost either 1 zl (chocolate sauce = polewa, whipped cream = bita smietana, youghurt = jogurt) or 0.5 zl (grated chocolate = posytpka). Pic stolen to Landad! ;-P by Carletto76 This is a very particular restaurant, in the cellars under the Old Town Hall of Gdansk. There we had our first VT Meeting of this trip, with Jolanda (Landad) and a friend of her; and she is the one who suggested this good restaurant! The restaurant has a very special design, mostly iron chairs (even thrones!) and big tables, good for much people... but also for the 4 of us! ;-) Food is very good, prices are reasonable, surely not the cheapest in town, but not expensive at all. Thank you Landad for the good suggestion! ;-) Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Old City Hall, ul.
